Replacing stock tires

Ok I need to replace the tires on my 01 CL-S. The stock Michelin tires cost $197 and thats just seems insane. So I was wondering if the Kumho Ecsta 711's for $90 or Yokohoma YK420's for $135 would be a good replacement. My local Discount Tire store has both of these tires. Will there be a noticeable driving difference if I switch to one of these? And are these good tires for the price? Any recommendations would be very helpful!! They dont have Toyo or Sumitomo tires in the stock CL-S tire size. And I live in Texas so I dont really need tires that perform well in snow.

Have you considered the Yokohama AVS ES 100? I am very satisfied with mine and they come in the stock size. I believe the YK420 has been discontinued and replaced by the ES100, which is a superior product.

Dunlop SP Sport 5000

I think you should try the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 ($109 Tire Rack) and let us know in a few thousand miles how you like them. These are at the top of my list for ~$100 tires....

I have the Dunlops and they are pretty good tires. They aren't the best in the snow though. I got stuck trying to get into my parent's driveway last winter (this was about 6" of fresh snow).

If you are interested in Toyo tires, the Toyo T1-S is an outstanding tire and it does come in 215-50-17. If your local Discount Tire dealer sells Toyo. surely they can order that size you want. The T1-S is a fair bit more expensive than the Yokohama ES 100. The ES 100 performance can't match the T1-S, but it is considered to be very good value.

The yokohama AVS ES100's are awesome, I got them this past summer and they have some teeth on them. They look good too, really agressive tread pattern, they also protect the rims good against those damn curbs and car wash rails. Very inexpensive too, got mine from tirerack.com, came out to like 107 each.

How much road noise compared to stock tires?

I honestly do not remember how the stock tires sounded. The yokos make a pretty cool sound, i dont find it too loud or annoying. Just sounds like a lot of grip, and you will feel the difference, you can take off pretty aggressively and not be chirping the tires, unless you really want to.

Also Dan, the yokos are very good at channelling out water, they handle extremely well in the worst rain conditions. for the money, you can't beat them, and get some blizzaks for the winter.
