Replacing just 1 tire?

So I got a nail on my front driver's side tire, and it can't be patched up. Right now, I got the spare on, but put it in the rear driver's side since I read in the manual that it's bad for the diff if I have the spare on the front.

My question is, is it okay to replace the one tire with a different size? I found a 215/45/17 for a good price. I realize that the sidewall will be smaller and am wondering if this will cause any harm. How about if I go wider (225/50/17)?

I currently have 215/50/17s on all the wheels with a good amount of tread left.

Thanks.

Thats not a good idea, besides all the tires you listed have different overall diameters. That to would be bad on you diff. You should try to get the same type and size tire. If you must use another size, use 234/45/17. It's the same overall diameter.

Hmm...

It's okay to get a pair of 235/45/17 for the rear then right?

Ok bump....

Can I replace one tire in the rear with a 235/45/17? Since the diameter will be the same, will there be any problems?

btw, the reason why I don't want to buy a new tire is because I'm planning to get new wheels in a couple of months, and it'd be a waste.

you can do it but you will have the problem of the car pulling to the side the new tire is on. If you get a used tire try to mach up the treed dept, that will help a lot
