Recommended tires for stock CLS 17in. rims?

Was driving a 2001 CLS with the stock 17in. rims and tires. Noticed that the tires don't have much stickem and would rupture on the sidewall if they encounted a pot hole.

Stock rims are: 17 x 7.0-inch cast aluminum-alloy wheels

Stock tires are: P215/50R17 93V Michelin MXM4 all-season tires

I'm now driving a 2003 CLS-6sp with the same stock rims and tires. Can anyone suggests better tires for

1) Stickem
2) Better sidewall support that don't rupture so easily

thanks,
-g

I put on Dunlop SP5000's. I'm really happy with them so far. I've heard they get more noisy as they wear, but the dry, wet, and snow traction is amazing compared to stock!

They got great reviews on Tirerack.com, and I can see why!

Also, they have a built in rim protector, and their profile makes the tire look wider as well.

Before i put on the 18s i had Toyo T1Ss in 215-50-17 and they were a huge improvement, incredibly sticky and much stiffer sidewalls.

Just my.02. I purchased the Yokohama's ES-100.
215/50/17's on the stock rims. Value priced at Tirerack, very sticky, good look and has the rim protecter as well. If I remember right, the tires were 816 revs per mile while our standard Michilens are at 819.

I put on the 225/50/17 Pilot Sport A/S.

Hell of a difference.

Guess if you're in Cali you won't need All Season tires. But if you do, the Sumitomo HTR+ are great in the snow....unfortunately that's the only thing I can vouch for since it's been so damn snowy and cold lately.

Next tires I try will be the new kumho MX's. They recently compared them to the Michelin Pilot Sports and one other high end tire and they were right with both of them in terms of perfromance and cost about 1/2 as much.

Pilots are rediculously expensive tires to put on a heavy, understeering FWD car.
