RE Drilling lug holes in wheels ...opinions please

well i bit the bullet and ordered wheels...i thought...O.Z. superleggera 18/8 but huston we have a problem ...my guy can only find 2 18/7's at that it seems oz has discontinued the grey super for the silver and currently only tirerack has those...but i came accross something...they make them for the WRX in an 18/8 +51 but ...the bolt pattern is 5*100 could those be filled and drill 114.3 safely? i think the 51 offset will be awesome concidering stock is 55 however stock is a 7 inch wheel...all opinions welcome? and solutions appreciated

yes i think you could do it but since the superleggeras do not have a center cover, it needs to be done cleanly! if there is enough room in that depressed lug area, an alternative would be to center your 5x114.3mm pcd amidst the current openings. there is a difference of 14.3mm so that translates into a ring about 7mm farther out, so make sure there is enough surface area. i am pretty sure you will have to refinish the entire wheel face afterwards (which you would probably want to do anyways) but this means even more money and hassle. i'm not sure if i would go this route on brand spanking new wheels...

you can try emailing these companies first

You might be at risk of rubbing on the inside with a +51 and 8 inch width.

It could alter the durability of the wheels.

try to find used ones... I wouldn't drill holes... it'll affect how solid the rim is and also might mess up some of the weighting if not done perfectly. They're expensive mods and so I wouldn't run the riks of messing them up.. plus, what if one cracks or something while you're ont he road b/c the structural integrity was lost when it was drilled? all in all I'd feel safer with more solid rims since the whole weight of your car (and your life) is resting on them. If you've got your heart set on that wheel, just wait it out and try to find used ones in my opinion...

honestly typeR. It'd be the dumbest thing you could do. It will completely ruin the integrity of the wheels IMO. You'd be better off w/ adapters.

Maybe because wheels with dual patterns are designed and tested for two patterns. And its made out of one chunk of metal instead of some half assed filling and redrilling.
