235/45/18 for thar wide of a wheel. 38 offset is kinda low. it will most likely stick out.

You're almost guaranteed to stick out past the fenders regardless of tire size. My , sell them and get different wheels. However, if you don't, when you get them on, post some pics, 'cause I want to see what this will look like. Good luck!

You will more than likely rub if you're lowered. Almost positive you will. I think the lowest offset is about a +42, with a 225 wide tire. I would stick within the range of +45 and higher.

Did someone recommend this wheel size to you? Or did you just go out and buy them?

You will rub if your lowered.
Get rims that fit the car.

And the correct size to keep the speedo accurate is 235-40-18. You should only get 225-40-18 if you know your going to rub with the 235 series.

The reason you will stick out is 1.) the wheel it too wide and 2.) the offset is too low. you need to bring the offset up to at least a 42 I think. Even with the 42 offfset, you will most likely still have problems with a wheel thats 8.5" wide.

You need to find a different wheel, dude. if you already have them coming or have them, don't waste your money on tires yet.

But you will still have a problem because they are too wide....

Finding the right wheels that are different from everyone else's is a bitch for our cars. I should know.

+42 is still not gonna work on a 8.5" rim. If you're planning to drop the car more than 1" or so 18x8.5 won't fit unless you can get a +52 or higher offset.

You either need to go with:

18x7.5 +45

or

18x8 +50

if ur friend has a 8.5" wide wheel and it doesn't stick out it's probably because his offset is high enough. With your +38 offset; plan on shaving/rolling your fenders.

[BTW 20"s on a 2000 TL = ]

LOL I was kidding, only encouraging him to buy my wheels

Why not just do it right and get the right offset?

I have 17x7 wheels with a +40mm offset and they even stick out a little with 225/45 tires. You can try, and if the wheels dont fit just take the tires off and get better fitting wheels and put the tires on. Who knows maybe they wont stick out far enough for you to dislike it.
