load rating on 225/40/18 tires? Are they all 88's?
I was looking to get some 225/40/18's and from tirerack's specs its seems like the first 5-6 tires I looked at had 88 load rating or lower.
I think the stock Michelins are 91 or 93? I would think an 88 load rating wouldn't be able to support our heavy ass car.
Anyone having any problems?
The tires I looked at were Kuhmo 712s, Sumitomo HTR+, Dunlop SP Sport, Yoko ES100...
these seem to be tires that most people have.
Should I go 235/40/18? Any one have these, and are there any clearance issues?

Yeah the lower profile tires don't seem to have many models with a good load rating exaclty or better than stock. I wanted to go witha 40 profile as well but not anymore......don't want to deal with rim damage etc.,

i have my 235/40-17 kumho 712's,
80% + tread, lifetime 100% roadhazard warranty, rotate, balance etc.
$300 + shipping.
they are 4% smaller than stock, but your car would hook up and haul ass.

mattg,
appreciate the offer but those kuhmo's are bit heavier than i wanted to go. You just pointed out my concern with the 40 series. I'd have to go with a 245/40 to get the odometer back in check.

Lighter tires= lower load rating.
Most summer tires are tires that break down for more grip and, thus, don't have a comparable load rating. You can use those tires...just don't be loading up your car with 4 ppl and luggage...and scream down the freeway at 100+.
Just check tire pressure frequently.

NITTO 555
*225/40ZR18 92W 10.1 25.04 9.02 7.5-(8.0)-9.0 1389@50 829
i got this from the nitto tire site..
www.nittotire.com
i had these tires on my 18's with a 92 load rating.
TOYO T1-S
225/40ZR18 92WRD 241760 7.5-8.0-9.0 22.0 10.3 25.1 9.0 11.8 1388 44 828
235/40ZR18 95WRD 241770 8.0-8.5-9.5 22.9 10.3 25.4 9.5 11.9 1521 44 818
92 load for 225/40-18 and 95 for 235/40-18
www.toyo.com
The nitto 225/40-18 is re-inforced, so it can handle more load...though nitto's 235/40-18 tire is NOT re-inforced so its load rating is 91 which is lower than their 225/40 tire.
for the highest load you could go with 95 on Toyo 235...or 92 on the nitto 225/40 which i had and believe me i put 7 people in my car before and i was on the highway doing 160km/hr and we are all still alive AND i should mention that at the same time i had bubbles in TWO of my tires, i drove on those bubbles for almost 4 months.
