J.D. Power and Associates Reports:
Michelin Ranks Highest in German Original Equipment
Tyre Customer Satisfaction
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 2, 2002
LONDON—Michelin ranks highest in original equipment (OE) tyre satisfaction, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2001 German Original Equipment Tyre Customer Satisfaction Index StudySM released today.
OE tyre satisfaction is determined based on six weighted factors: traction/safety, ride, durability, problem incidence, design and fuel economy.
Michelin earns the highest scores for tyre durability, problem incidence and design, and ties with Continental for the highest marks for ride.
"Michelin shows a consistently good performance across the spectrum of tyre ownership, with particular strength in durability," said Nathalie Gooding, European tyre research specialist at J.D. Power and Associates. "Continental owners also report consistently good experiences, but Continental outperforms Michelin only on fuel economy, a less important attribute of tyre ownership. Continental follows Michelin in the overall ranking."
Pirelli also earns high customer satisfaction scores, following Continental in the overall ranking with strong performances in ride and traction/safety.
The German OE Tyre Customer Satisfaction Index Study, based on the experiences and opinions of nearly 3,000 German motorists in their first year of new-car ownership, reports on how satisfied owners are with the tyres that came with their new vehicle at the time of purchase. The study monitors owner perceptions regarding tyre quality, performance, brand image and service behaviours.
Dunlop scores at the industry average, performing well in durability and problem incidence. While Goodyear leads on traction/safety—the factor that contributes most to overall satisfaction—it does not rank above the industry average. Bridgestone and Firestone were also included in the study.

Geez, you know how many truck, regular passenger, station wagon, and regular tires Michelin sells?
It's nice to know they are "happy" with their purchases, and I've yet to see any of these tests that "group" purchases by "make of tire" (not brand).
Michelin makes some great tires like the new A/S you have and they also make the rather crummy MXM4s (those sidewalls are pretty week for an XL rated tire -- I know 'cause they're sitting in my garage)!
So, go figure...
