I agree with Soopa - Without snow tires this car is marginal in the snow

I drove last night for the first time in real snow conditions - prior to this, it was always the morning after the storm etc.

I would rate the car as "okay" or "marginal" in the snow.

For me, front wheel drivers are more of a pain in the snow as I like to hit snow banks sidways, as the rear end tries to slide around, as opposed to sliding straight into the snowbank as I plow through the turn.

The lack of handbrake also makes it harder for a r/w guy like me to throw the back end around (something which worked great in my Golf)

So anyways, the car got through the snow last night (3-4 inches on the road) but I would not have wanted to try to make it through 6-8 inches or tried any sizeable hills etc.

The morale: The car, on standard tires is fine in light snow conditions but if you plan to brave the serious stuff, take the wife's explorer or pony up $1k for some snows (I say $1k cause I would take the snows and put them on the OEM rims and buy some new summer rims)

My scratched rims can attest to the understeer this car enjoys to exhibit in the snow.

One helluva handfull in the snow! Man, I had to simply move it out in the street to get my snowblower out and the TCS (too poor to have VSA ) was having a fit. Turn it off and it's worse.

My Jeep...it was like a normal drive on a sunny day.

I really don't think snows would help this car on a stop-start situation. Honda made the throttle tip-in WAY too aggressive. I notice that it will cradle the fronts into the snow before any distance is made.

Bottom line.....steal the SUV like Adam does.
