ES100 and Proxes 4 Tire Comparison

I've gone thru 2 sets of the Yokohama ES100's and have just broke in my new Toyo Proxes 4's.

My initial impression is that the ES100's are a significantly stickier tire. Accelerating hard in a turn causes more wheel spin than before, and general steering response doesn't have quite the bite. My hunch is that the Proxes 4's are a harder rubber. I'm gonna look up the comparison numbers for estimated mileage and dry-pavement ratings on both to see if I'm alone on my stance. Just from looking at the tread patterns on both, the ES100's appear to be more designed specifically for summer driving.

I wish I could have afforded the Proxes T1-S -- those are the shiznit!

Sharing my thoughts...

the Proxes 4 have a tread wear rating of 300, so that makes sense. I'll probably have to upgrade to T1-S's next.

Sumitomo HTR ZII are also very nice, although, their UTQG is 220 AA A, highest you can ever have, but not much mileage out of the tires.

Once warmed up, they are the stickiest tires on the market. Also very cheap, in 225/45, they are only $100-120 a pop.

Nice review Deez. I am going to get the Proxe 4's eventually.

i have the es100's now, and they are real sticky, but only lasting me about 2 and a half summers. i was thinking of getting the proxes 4 next summer in the hopes they will last a little longer. i figured they wouldn't be as good as the yokos, but oh well. they are still way better than stock.
