Has anyone mounted the typeS wheels/tires on the clp? did this improve the ride?

The Type-S wheels/tires will give the premium model a sporty feel, but be careful in sharp turns. The Type-S is equipped with a different steering rack and the wheels will contact the tie rods on the premium model. The TL-S wheels pose less of a threat due to 6.5" width, rather than the CL-S 7.0".

I don't see how they would fit. The S wheels are made for 17's and the P wheels are made for a 16" tire

Actually they said that the wheels/tires on the S are actually quieter and lighter than the ones on the P.

i dont see why they wouldn't fit. whats the difference? i mean i know one is 17" and one is a 16" but the suspension design is the same. i cant see it not fitting.

Do not attempt under any circumstances to install the Type-S wheels/tires on the 3.2CL non Type-S model. Under certain conditions, the larger diameter wheels will interfere with the chassis/body, resulting in wheel and/or body damage.

The Type-S is fitted with a different power steering gearbox that limits the rack travel. The Type-S also utilizes a different front engine beam, beam attachment flange bolts (12mm x 30mm), and radius rods for increased durability. http://www.4acura.com/service/news/2000c1.asp

Like SSMAN said, the TL-S rims may fit, but the CL-S rims really don't.

Although a few people with TL-P's have CL-S wheels without any major problems, it really isn't worth screwing with a $30,000 car,

So does that mean CLP cannot change rims? Does that mean if I put a 18 x 7.5 with 225/40/18 on will cause damaged???

I don't think so.... the TypeS rims will fit on CLP cars, BUT, it will rub at extreme U-turn, because #1 the turning radius, #2, OFFSET! The rims on both cars are 48+, such a high offset, so basically if you put anything that high offset on there, spacing if extrememly important. 17 x 7 with a 52 offset will rub, cuz the CLP is 16 x 6.5 with a 48 or 52 offset? But I agree with all the people above, TypeS rims MIGHT make a risk of damaging some parts of the car....

Therefore, I would NOT put the TypeS rims on the CLP... #1, dun want to be call TypeS wanna be... #2, some risk of damaging a pricy car.... #3, rims stick too outwards, with a too skinny tires, result in scrape the rims..... So with the money invested in those 17", I could have get the 18s without any worry!

So unlike SilverSoCal_CL-P said, the damage will NOT cause by larger diameter rims!

Acutally I just did this. I put the CL-S chromed rims on a CL-P and they are fine. The dealers at Scottsdale Acura said no problem kept the car under warranty and Ins. and everthing is fine. No difference. The Tires I got are the Dunlop Sport 5000's. Guy at tirerack.com said these were the best and same Load weight as my CL-P rims and very little in difference of calibration. 215/50/17. As for the handling the stock tires suck so theseare ten times better. As for rubbing I told the dealer don't put them on if they will and he said they won't and hey like I said as long as it is on warrant doesn't bother me. Have fun put them on but get the Chrome they look tight. Anthony

never said that...

"the TypeS rims will fit on CLP cars"

i already said that

"So unlike SilverSoCal_CL-P said, the damage will NOT cause by larger diameter rims!"

but then you say...

"But I agree with all the people above, TypeS rims MIGHT make a risk of damaging some parts of the car..."

"Therefore, I would NOT put the TypeS rims on the CLP..."

the only thing usefull you posted

MORAL OF THE STORY:
CL-S rims will fit a CL-P, but there will likely be rubbing and potential problems... so go with other rims that don't scratch so easy.

Laser,

Not trying to start a flame war with a fellow CL-P owner. Just don't misrepresent my posts.

I never said he couldn't add CL-S rims. I know people with TL-P's with 18" rims, so I know it is possible to add bigger rims to the CL-P.

All I did was post a link from Acura regarding the potential problems, as I had inquired at my dealer at the time of purchase about adding the CL-S rims to my car.

Buy light weight rims anyways...

The CL-S rims are kinda heavy (25 lbs) if you have to pay extra for them.
