Replace all 4. If you only replace 2 you will need to get the same ones as the front. Tires vary. What's you weather like? Need an all season? If not the Toyo T1-S is a very good summer tire. I had 2 sets before & I just got my 3rd. They only last about 20-25K miles though. Do a search & you will find a bunch of threads on good tires.

IMHO, I think that the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s are probably the best tire for stickiness and yet as good as A/S tires in the wet. I've got 15k miles on mine with lots of tread left; probably good for another 15k miles. But they are pricier than Toyos, but superior IMO.

There really is no "best" tire, as there is always a compromise that much be made depending on driving style, tread wear, traction, ride, noise, etc.

We need alot more info on your intentions and climate use of the tires.

And, even when comparing like tires – e.g. max performance vs. max performance and ultra-high performance vs. ultra-high performance, and so on…

The actual surface of the pavement has a profound impact on how a particular tire works (the casing design, tread design, and compound all compromises). It is pretty easy to do a "comparo" and decide that one max-performance summer tire is better than another make/brand, and then find that another test shows the "loser" beating the "winner" in another competition/test. Even a change in ambient temperature can impact the relative performance. Tire Rack, for example, doesn’t have 18 different types of surface to test tires on.

So, it is possible to have someone tell you that their MXM4s work great and they wouldn't be lying if the pavement was really "toothy.". OTOH, they squeal like pigs and don't stick too well on slick concrete and really smooth blacktop -- at least when compared to the Toyo T1S (and other tires).

BTW, I’m not saying that looking at tests, survey results and user opinions are unimportant. I’m only saying that different folks can have different experiences with a given set of tires.

tirerack.com has an extremely useful web site with tons of information on all the various tires out there. it has review and ratings of all the tires by other owners, often representing millions of miles of driving. some of them are bound to have similar driving conditions to your own.

i don't know a lot about tires, but based on info here and on the tirerack.com site, i chose the yokohama avid v4s tires ($111 ea including shipping). these are "all-season high-performance" tires, even though i don't expect a lot of snow in san diego and could have gotten summer tires. for the price, i think these tires are an exceptional value.

btw, it was very enlightening to find out the ratings on the stock michelin tires. can't figure out why honda would continue to use tires that expensive and that bad.

Thought I can possibly get some help here as well..
I just picked up a 2001 cl-s for my girl yesterday and the seller told me he rotated the tires 3 weeks ago. The front tires look very good and even however the back are bold on the outsides so I was going to replace the rear tires and then get an alignment.

the car has stock type S wheels and the car is going to be seeing a lot of florida highway driving. Its also VERY Noisy on the highway...So..

I guess i'm looking for Summer tires that will provide a comfortable quiet ride but still provide a sense of handling on the road. After looking through tirerack I saw the Avon Tech M500 had really good reviews. Any others i should look into before i make my final decision?

The sports arent available in 215/50/17. only 215/45/17. I really rather not get a lower profile tire and lose the extra comfort in the ride. After doing more research on tirerack...i think i'm ganna stick with the Avon m500 summer tires. They are rated in the 8-8.5 range in most categories so i think it will work out pretty well.

Goodyear F1 Gs-D3 Great Summer tire and price is reasonable for a 280 treadwear tire. I would also go with 235/45-17 on the stock rim instead of the 215/50. The car will feel much more stable.

I could use some guidance here too.

My 02 CL-S is getting new wheels, and it seems as though I need to settle on 17s, since I can't find a single 18 that I like (must be white).

I'm a big fan of Continentials, especially in experience from german cars. My front tires are currently continential all seasons, and I LOVE them. The vehicle will NOT be driven hard, as my wife drives the car 90% of the time anyway. What is important is wet traction, noise (lack thereof), and rim protection. I live in PA, so all season is important, although the car rarely sees snow. The wheels will be a 17x7. What size and brand/model do you guys recommend? I'd love to hear personal experience with the contis.

I like my Kumho Ecsta ASX...it's high performance, and all season in one. Pretty good traction in dry and wet, haven't tried it on snow yet

I've got 2 OEM's on the front and 2 Yoko V4's on the back... I've been driving 'em like this for over 25K miles to no ill effect... I did like it better with the Yoko's on front since they don't squeal as much as the oem's...

You definitely should buy the same tires for each axle (front or back), but I don't see an issue with having mixed brands on the front vs. the back...

Since I need all seasons, I'll probably buy a full set of 4 Yoko V4S's this fall... I'm riding on bald tires just about (just about down to the warning strips on 2 and the other 2 are like 4/32's). I need an alignment bad too... (steering wheel needs to be centered).

edit: Just noticed this thread is from, like, a year and a half ago
