Question Buying tires, have 2 choices, need input

Hey Dudes,

I was planning to buy General Exclaim UHP in stock size but then a friend of mine who works fro Honda has 4 brand new Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 also in stock size. The price for UHPs is about $620 CDN installed with road hazzard warranty and all that stuff from a shop, but my buddy wants $340 CDN for the Michelins plus $80 for install and balance.

I've read lots of good stuff about Generals but unfortunately not too many people are happy with the Michelins. As I understand this model of Michelins came stock on TL-S and CL-S. They will be quite cheap for me if go this route but I don't want to be regretting my decision later. Those of you who used them, can you please give me some feedback here? Dry, wet, snow, response, wear... I checked out tirerack and 1010tires reviews but people have different cars so it might be different experience for everyone.

The michelin tires suck. Everyone replaces them. The general's are far better tires.

Also the UHP's are not for cold or snow. They are not all seasons. They are summer tires. So you may want to look into a different tire.

I use winter tires and generally looking for a summer tire that does great dry and wet, with longer wear than my current Toyo Proxes 4 and preferably no known balancing and uneven wear problems.

Can't comment on teh UHP's. But the Miche's, are not a great tire, I have them OEM on my wifes 05 Pacifica AWD 235/55/19. Even in AWD the snow and ice traction is not very reasuring. Even in light snow it can be a bit scary. I can only imagine that if it was FWD only we would be getting stuck in the Colorado Winters here. As for a summer tire the Michelins are not to bad at all. For the Pacifica that is. Wet traction is good, steering responce is good, and ware is great. We have 38K miles on them and will likely get another 10 to 15K out of them. I'm not to sure i'd want them on my CLS though!

Hope that helps a bit.
