Best All Weather Tire for CL-P Rims

Looks like upgraded wheels are going to have to wait. (saving for a house)

But my current tires have less than a few months left to them and I would love to get new all-season tires for them before the winter sets in.

I went to costco tire center the other day just to price some tires and they actually had the same MXVxx Michilin (whatever) OEM tires available. Only problem is that they are like $150 each and suck as far as traction goes.

a. Can I change from the stock 205/60/R16 to 205/55/R16's safely? I would like lower profile tires.

b. I want something with excellent traction or at least better than stock setup for year round driving.

Any suggestions?

No rain in so cal yet, so don't know what they are like in the rain yet.
