Bad to drive on unbalanced wheels?????

I got a set of rims at my house that Im gonna balance this weekend myself. I had a tire place down the street from my house do the mounting, basically because I suck at doing it and always end up scratching the lip with the machine.....and they wanted like 10+$ extra for each wheel to balance them because the weights are "expensive" so i told them i would do it myself.

Can I drive with the wheels on my car without them being balanced for a day bc i cant fit all the wheels in my car bc of my system....I know ill get a shimmy from my steering wheel if i go over 50-60mph..But is it physically bad for my rims and or car??? The drive would only be to a couple towns away.

Thanks

You should be fine. especially if its that close. I dont think unbalanced wheels can do any damage.

After 1000 miles most tires are unbalanced anyway. For a day you'll be fine.

I would hope not.
I know mine are out of whack since I bought the car over a month ago.
All I get is a little vibration in the steering wheel, noticeable only when I'm going over 70mph.

my car came new w/ the vibration in the steering wheel above ~ 60 MPH from out of balance tires. if you're still suffereing with this find a local shop with a "Hunter Road Force Wheel Balance" machine. it took several attempts but i finally got ALL of the vibrations out of all 4 tires this way. the tire shop unmounts, repositions the tires on the rim to compensate for max/min weight spots between rims and tires, then re-mounts, and re-balances. stock michelin pilots, stock 17" rims. had to reduce the "road force variation" to less than 10. whatever that means - tire shop guy made a big deal out of it. cost me $10 per wheel. i can now run "over 60" on the highway vibration free. nothin' ruins a nice higway ride like unbalanced tires.

don't know how long the tires will remain balanced. only 4K on the car so far. but the vibrations haven't come back. yet.

good luck.
