Question? Why didn't you go with the T1's? We don't need all seasons in FL. I was quoted a cheaper price for T1's then the 4's at Tire kingdom.

^^^

Are you sure? Seems everywhere people are looking the T1-S are much more expensive than the 4s.

fuzzy02CLS,
Believe me I looked a long time at the T1-S' and they were my first choice. I think the tread pattern looks cool, very similar to the old Potenza RE730's, which I also had and liked on my 1999 SI. However, they (T1-S) have a softer treadware rating of 280 compared to the 300 for the Proxes 4's. Tempeature and Traction ratings for both tires are (A) and (AA) respectively. Moreover, the price for the T1-S' from 'Edgeracing.com $149.00 per tire vs. $108.00 for the Proxes 4's. Therefore, since I was trying to get the best value using my 'Tax refund' proceeds, the New Proxes 4's were the way to go for me.

I went with A/S tires because I have been applying for alot of Federal Auditor postions up in the Northern States, so If I get lucky, I may have to make a move to a snowy state.

I called TireKingdom on these (Proxes 4's) as well, they quoted me $150.00 per tire, before mounting/balance. I was like, take another hit from the crack pipe, dude I can only imagine what the T1-s' would have went for from them. Maybe the location you inquired to had them on sale.

BTW, there is another thread out there from ShawnS that talks about the Proxes 4 and the Edge Racing vendor. They are located in Weston, FL; and you can pick tires up yourself to save shipping. It seems they have some overall pretty good tire prices. Check it out if your intersested or in the market.

Scrib,
I Agree, That's what I experienced in my pricing search.

Peace

Didn't know about that place I 'll check it out when I need tires.
Maybe cause I get all my tires at tire kindom they gave me a better price on the T1's.

I was looking on toyo's site the other day, and they had a 7.5 inch wide rim listed as the minimum size for the 235/45/17. I know that many people have that size and have not had any problems so far, but just wondered if anyone had seen that as well. If that is what the manufacturer is suggesting as the minimum, i would probably err on the side of safety and go with the 225's. No one wants to be the first to have your tires pop off.

Yep, that's the industry standard. 7.5 min. for a 235/45/17. Tirerack won't sell you a 235 if you tell them you have a 7 inch rim.

Lots of people here have put the 235's on the stock 7 inch wide rim.

Maybe 2 or 3 if that many. No one has posted anything about tires coming off, or blowing, or non sense like that. Just balance & vibration issues. Which may or may not be related to the tire/rim. I did run 235's on stock rims for over 2 years with no problems. I speed too(over 100)

Wow. I like it. They dont have that "going flat" look that the 215's have.

My 215's always look like they need air.

Looks good. I am looking at these in this size or the new Kumho ASX. What are your impressions so far about ride, noise, handling, etc?

Rock2534, greenmonster,
Initially, the stock wheel width (7.0) vs. the minimun manufacturer tire width (7.5) issue was a concern when I started shopping for my 235/45/17's. However, after researching all of the input from those in the ACL community that have experimented with this size on the stock wheel, it became reasonable to assume that, for me, this size was the way to go for a more aggressive wider look for my car.

If you really think about it, the additional (.5) in width regarding the manufactures minimum recommendation, in my opinion, is not very material to cause a nonconformance type of worry in regards to overall tire fitment. If you split that (.5) on both sides from the center aspect of the stock (7.0) wheel you are really only looking at (.25) of a differance on either side of center. Not a hell of alot of distance.

Now that may sound like some pretty heavy rationalization on my part; however, logically, I believe that the manufactures, in thier overall engineering of the tire, took into consideration a plus or minus spec. logic in anticipation of this very min/max rim width issue. They just won't admit to it to guard against liability concerns that may come back to haunt them should (but very remote IMO) a rim from wheel separation occur. That's understandable.

In addition, the tire to rim beads and sidewalls are really thick and this tire has an overall 'Meaty' look treadwise. I wish I would have taken a picture of one in regards to this aspect of the tire. I'm sure that would have helped for those with the min/max rim width concerns.

Now, I think if I had went with a 245 or 255 with the stock (7.0) wheel then that would really be pushing it, but with all of the other 235/45/17 'on stock wheels' input from other ACL posters the risk seems minimal to me.

BTW, These tires ride smooth and are quiet. Running 32psi in front and 30psi in back. I have pushed them pretty hard on every I-95 and I-75 clover leaf thus far that I've used for entrance and exit and the traction holds great!! They really compliment the Comptech spring/sway setup that I have installed on my car. A HUGE differance over the Michalians!! Almost insulting The tire mounter said Daaammmnn!! Those look pretty hot!! No significant rain has occurred yet here in South Florida as of yet so I can't really compare, but I'm sure they will perform as anticipated.

I highly recommend these Proxes 4's for anyone looking for some new A/S tire technology. Especially for you northern folks. Thats where the mettle of these Proxes 4's will really be put to the test.

Peace

Ant7701,
As mentioned previously, the sound levels are very minimal. If you drive at a constant speed and listen very very carefully with the windows up, you can hear just a little bit of tread noise. But you really have to listen hard. I hear more noise (rattles) from my sunroof then from these tires.
The quote below comes from the write-up on the Proxes 4's on Toyo.com. Click on News & Affiliate Links on the menu bar, look for the article on the Proxes 4's.
'Another benefit of Toyo’s advanced computer technology is a five-variable pitch design, which reduces tread noise caused by harmonics generated between the road surface and the tire.'

Shawn S,
I remember when you scanned that article and posted it. At that time I was on the fence as to where/what I would start looking at regarding all makes and tire specs for my new set of tires. Very unsure at the time as to how to proceed. Then I observed that article and my search was over. Just look at that tire!!! The area in red that you circled was the aspect that pushed me off the fence and compelled me to get these tires!!

Shawn, so you got the Proxes 4's? But that is still just going to serve as a summer tire for you right, even though it is an AS tire? I have found that the dedicated winter tire is much better in the snow we get around here.

I’m still keeping my 16” BLIZZAK’s & TL Rims for winter duty.
I think I can get one more year out of them before they too need to be replaced.
Even though the Toyo’s are A/S rated, I still doubt they are any good in anything more then 2-3 inches of white stuff.
It’s just too wide a tire and the tread is still pretty aggressive.

I just wanted something with a HARDER compound because I wore out my Falken’s in only about 12,000 miles.
I’m hoping to do better with these.
Plus if I get caught in a late spring or early fall snowstorm I won’t be “dead in the water” with summer only tires on the car.
