18 x 7 wheels. what size tire?

I currently have 18 x 7 rims with 225/40 tires. What is the widest I could go? I also don't want such a low profile anymore either. Would 235/45 fit or 235/50???

235s on a 7" wide rim is not a good idea. Too wide a tire for that narrow a rim.

And they'll look stupid. There will be a big bulge on the side since they are soo much wider than the wheel.

235mm = 9 1/4"

i have 225, you could fit 235 easily.

no different than people putting 235's on the stock 17x7 wheels, which many have done w/ 0 problems.

Not so, don't forget the aspect ratio, a 235/40/18 is different than a 235/45/17. there is more stress on the bead against the rim, and too much of a bulge can blow right off the wheel when inflating. the bigger the aspect ratio, the more you can play with wheel and tire combos, but lower than a 40 series, and its too rigid as opposed to a 70 series SUV tire, which normally come 235/70/16 on a 16" x 7" wheel, OEM. In the end its just a risk, not a guarenteed problem.

well, i ran 235/40-17's on my stock cl-s rims. which would be the same aspect ratio as a 235/40-18 on an 18x7 (which i will be putting on my 18x7's in the spring)

my 235/40-17's fit perfectly onto the 17x7 stockers, no bulge at all. i know it may be out of the recommended range, but in the real world it works fine.

I would suggest 225/45/R18...this is the closest size to stock and should fit the rims perfectly. I have 225/40/R18 on with a comptech drop and I am going to go to 225/45/R18 to close the wheel gap alittle more. 225/40/R18 look to small if you keep your suspension stock, the car looks like a 4x4.

I recommend size 225...45...Maximaforums.org

Tony, this is a question that is very vehicle specific, would you really trust judgement from someone here who doesn't own a Nissan? I highly recommend checking out the Nissan Maxima forums.
