Transmission Rebuild Issues
I have a 2001 Acura 3.2cl Type-s. The second transmission went out in March at 177k and I took it to a transmission shop to have it rebuilt. They rebuilt it and it broke in about 2 months. Still under warranty they started working on it again. At this point it has been in and out of the shop since this summer. They have had my car for over 4 months total. They have replaced the transmission computer and have now put a different transmission in it. Every time I get it back it seems like the next day in the morning the check engine light comes on and I have to take it back to them. They say if I just drive it they will void the warranty, but they can't seem to find or fix the problem. When I called them today they told me that it couldn't be a transmission problem because they have replaced the transmission and the computer. Has anyone had to deal with a similar issue? I'm wondering if they are just putting bad parts in and they keep braking.

I'd suggest going to several other transmission shops and ask if they can help. Most will let you know what the code reader says free of charge and give an estimate - which will give you some ideas. I have the same year/model CL and just spent 10 mos. going back and forth with the local transmission shop. My issue was it kept slipping out of gear. They took out the tranny 4 times. The last time they seemed to finally have taken care of the problem. It was only under threat of total refund that they were able to fix it right. Here in California, the state's Bureau of Auto Repair helps consumers and shops listen.
