Timing belt change interval?
 

I'm at 105,000 miles on my CLS, when did you guys change your belt and what condition was it in? I know the risks with these things but I'm thinking of waiting awhile till the economy gets better. I dont race it or run it hard.

now is the time to change it if you drive lightly, 60k if you drive hard.. you can wait, ill doubt you will have a problem if you get it before 120k. but theres always that chance it will break. if you feel comforatable taking that chance then go for it, but i wouldnt not

Really? I guess I should do it too then. I'm right under 105k, but I got the car with 93k. Do you think there's a chance that it has been done before? Is there a way to tell?

BAGII,run your vin number at any Acura dealer,they should be able to tell you.If you decide to do it ,price around with private garages.Dealers will want 1500.00 to do it.

Service limit is about 90k but you can easyli get it pass 120k. Driving habbits totally do not have any influnce on tb longevity. The only factors are mileage and time. For cars over 10 years I would not go over service limit as with age belt fibers loose its flexibility. I ve seen 15 year old car break tb @ 60k but also 7 year old car make it to 160k.

Timing belts, like tires, are subject to heat cycles. This being said, a car that starts up for the first time and drives 120,000 miles without turning the engine off will have a timing belt in better shape than a delivery car than turns on and off 25 times a day with 50,000 miles. If you do a lot of highway driving then you can probably hold off a little bit on changing it, but I wouldn't go too long.

Its time to replace the belt - its like buying insurance.
