Ticking/clicking comming from behind the engine bay.. valves or solenoid?

I did a search and I see that is is a common problem.
I was checking my oil, tranny fluid, and that my actulator was working and kept hearing this tick/clicking noise comming from behind the engine.
At first (B4 i strarted searching the forum) I thought my valves but then when listening closer it was not comming from where the valves are located. The ticking / clicking is prob my purge control solenoid.
My question is did it always do this, I never really noticed it b4 today and i do mess under the hood alot I think i would have noticed it.
DO the purge control solenoid only start to tick when it gets older if I buy a new purge control solenoid will the ticking stop.
The ticking is a rythem a fasted tick but when the rpms go up u dont hear it anymore and when they come back down to idle it take a few seconds to start up again.
Is there a DIY on installing a new purge control solenoid and is it easy..??

BTW from what I explained do u guys think the problem is the purge control solenoid?

Find the purge solenoid and touch it, you will probably feel it tick. A new one should fix the issue and it is a 5 minute replacement job...cake. Just plug and play.

mine does it also and prolly every other Honda does it as well. But as far as ticking. Have you had your valves adjusted yet?

No I have not had my valves adjusted yet..
I really dont think its comming from the valves and when the rpm's go up past 750 (which is where its at while idleing) then the ticking stopes.
If u r standing in front of the car its coming from the front driver side, by where u put the brake fluid in. Thats where it sounds like its comming from!

Is it suppose to tick, I did a little more searching and people that had the ticking and replaced it still had it tick even with a new solenoid.
Is it detremental to the car in any way if I do not replace it just let it keep ticking, or does a ticking solenoid make the car run worste or get worste gas milage?

I guess what I am trying to say is that I can live with the ticking but can the car?

I guess I'm gonna let it tick when driving you cant hear it or when car goes over 1k rpm's u cant hear it , u only hear it when it idles at 750RPMS and it deff not comming from the engine but is comming from the driversade firewall section (by where u put the brake fluid in)

This thread is awsome! I was trying to figure out what the hell that noise was coming from. Mine is doing the same but I haven't notice anything bad. I keep my car up to par, I don't abuse it and I get my oil changed every 2,500.00 mile and make sure the rest of the fluids are topped off. But this thread is awsome!

Your welcome...

Yeah the ticking gets annoying and i am maticulate about my car lately..(now that im not making any $ and need to keep my car running a few more years)

I did a few searches and found a few threads cuz it does sound like it can be bad but I isolated the problem to that solenoid.
I am gonna see how much the part cost's and if its under $50 I might just swap it out even though some people did swap it out and are still getting the ticking.

It did not tick for the whole time I had my car I would remember the ticking and I am always under my hood checking things out trying to learn something new and check my fluids and actulater..

it just ticks. I dunno what would happen if you replaced it with a new one.
I asked what would be the benefits or harm in replacing or not replacing it and i never got an answer.

It is NOT supposed to audibly tick. You didn't hear it when the car was new right? I had 3 CL's & never heard it tick before until it started 1 day.
A new 1 should stop the ticking. The part is cheap & it's easy to replace so why not just do it.

This is the culprit that keeps ticking..

I noticed today that it does not start ticking right away it needs to warm up a little b4 it starts playing its song!

why do it? i dont hear about any improvements other then a quieter idle.
im not bothered by the ticking. my valves tick louder then that and im not getting my valves adjusted tomorrow.

why?
The valve tick is LOUDER then that?
Do ticking valves tick like that ticks?
How many miles on your car that your valves Tick louder then that?
How much you $$ for valve adjustment, I was thinking about doing that but may valves make no noise, well no tick..

My car has 170K and RUNS GREAT no ticking valves and never had a valve adjustment done, most techs tell me if the car drives/performs good and no ticking valves then not to spend my money on it right now, how much truth is behind that and what do u guys think..??
Valve adjustment or Headers?

i mean my valves in the engine ticks louder then the purge solenoid. i have 99k right now.

i think i told you before but you need a valve adjustment, your way past the 105k interval. loose valves you hear, tight valves you dont. and tight valves are worse then loose valves.

You really can't compare your noises since you have a totally different car/engine/trans.

every 2,500 miles is too often to be changing your oil. Especially with these newer oils. Also, the owners manual has an interval of every 7,xxx miles

wait are you guys talking about this noise occurring because of rpms or stricktly out of nowhere..

Cause I have a loud TICK that comes sometimes usually when it is warmer and it seems to be when the trans is trying to shift or something. It happens other intermitent times but mostly because of throttling the car...???

Is that the same tick??? cause I was thinking it sounded like the trans slowly snapping or something lol.. but i'm still moving

what is it? thanks

no this one happens at idle, usually when the car is warm. it comes from that solenoid as pictured.

Lol I usually do it myself and the job pays me to keep the car running up to par sense I'm always on call so no complaints

My solenoid does it too...... I was thinking of changing it so I won't have to hear it tick if I open the hood.

Mine Purge control solenoid ticked so I bought a new one and the ticking stopped. Then my CEL came on so i swapped it back out with the old one and the CEL went away. I figure I'd rather have the ticking than the CEL

That is odd.. did you run the code when your CEL came on to see what code it was? Was the solenoid you bought aftermarket or OEM?

Stoned... I have a tick also near the belts, I've checked and its definitely not the purge solenoid on the other side... I'm fearing the valves may need to be done, but I've also heard the tensioner can cause a tick.... All stock here at the moment also, btw.
