Rip off on head gasket repair

My mechanic here in Sunrise, Florida charged me $2850 to replace a head gasket. The machine shop that took the heads advised that there was a sealant issue on the gasket and replaced it. Since the car had 108,000 mile on it they felt it needed a to remanufacture the heads and adjust the valves to the tune of well over $1000 bucks.

In addition, the mechanic decided to replace the timing belt without asking to the tune of $225.00. I had this item replaced by the local Acura dealer back over the summer.

The question is do valves on the 2001 Acura CLS need to be adjusted and what have any of you paid when replacing a blown head gasket.

Any help or advise here would be most appreciated.

Should have went to car-tek tuning. Unless of course that's where it was.
For the valves yes they get loose. Yes they do need adjusting sometimes. Most dealers will charge about $5-$600 for it.

You blew the head gasket, which is surprising, don't hear many of those going.
The heads were warped & either needed to be replaced or resurfaced. That's how it works sometimes.
For the timing belt, the heads are off already may as well do it again while everything is torn down.
They should have told you before any additional works was to be done though.

They can't charge you unless you signed off for it in an estimate. At least how it is in cali.
