Passenger Mirror Motor

Passenger Mirror Motor
Hey guys,
So I cracked my passenger side mirror and when I tried to replace it on my own I evidently broke the teeth behind the mirror. Now my mirror just goes crazy whenever I start my car.
My questions for you guys are:
Can I disable the passenger mirror motor so that it just stays in one position?
or
What part (i.e. whole mirror, just the motor) will I need to replace to get it working again?
Just to mention it again, the teeth behind the mirror are busted so it's pretty much a lost cause to repair without replacement parts.
Thanks for your help guys

Why would your mirror move when you start the car?
It moves when you shift the car into reverse but that can be stopped by not putting the (L - R) position switch not in the middle.

It moves no matter what position the switch is on (left, right, middle), since the teeth behind the mirror are busted. It just turns upward and starts clicking.
Nspec, when you say small black cover on the top do you mean behind the mirror?
