Exclamation Motor Mount Vacuum tube - Necessary?

So, my vacuum hose on the back motor mount was left out... it's a b%^& to get it in once the mount is installed bc you can't see it.

What is the function of the vacuum hose? Is it bad to not have it plugged in?

Its hooked up to a valve so when the engine torques it will stiffen it up. Id say yes it is important, especially since Ive been told it could cause a vacuum leak if it is left disconnected.

What is a vacuum leak? I drove it back from the shop today... will bring to him tomorrow afternoon.... could I be in trouble (i.e., need of a new mount!)?

Ya, mine is disconnected too. I got under the car to change the tranny fluid and saw the line broke in two from the elements getting to it after all these years.

Not sure if there is an easy way to reconnect it without undoing all the mount bolts. I tried fitting my hand in there but had no luck.

Vacuum leak = unmetered air finding its way into the engine i.e. - a hole in the intake manifold after the throttle body.

You wont need a new mount right away, but running without it connected for a long time could create excess wear on them.
