Mechanic says "bad rear main seal" but oil level stays the same

My mechanic -- who I have used for a few years, is an Acura specialist, and generally trustworthy -- told me at my last oil change that I had a leaking rear main seal on my 2001 CL-S with 114k.

I did a search on the forum, and saw a few threads pertaining to the 6spd cars (mine's an auto). But here is what is strange. I've racked up 3,000 miles since he told me about the rear main seal, and the oil is right where it should be on the dipstick.

Is it possible that the rear main seal leak is so small that I'm not actually losing much - if any - oil at all? There are no spots on the driveway either. If it is that small of a leak, would a product like Bar's Leak Rear Main Seal Repair work for me? I've used some of their products in the past on other cars, and have always had good luck. I didn't like what I heard about the cost of the repair (I think my mechanic quoted me $650, IIRC), and if I could fix it another way that would be great.

Any thoughts?

i called the dealership and they told me its something you dont really have to worry about just cheack your fuild everytime you get a oil change or something.... your not gonna notice a big change in the oil level cause its very minimal but if you have to pour in like a bottle every oil change i think something should be done

I check the oil level about twice a month (I drive less than 600 miles in a month), and definitely haven't seen a change in the oil level. These engines are TIGHT, because my '01 Suburban with 165k on it burns about a quart every 2,500 miles with no leaking rear main.

I'll probably just leave well enough alone -- no sense in doing anything about it until the leak gets worse.
