Issue after valve clearance service

Today I did my valve clearance service along with a P2R Img kit and new EGR valve. Also did the TB bypass mod as well. Car fired right up yet the check engine light came on right afterwards. Any sensors were pulled that could be, before cleaning of the EGR port, IM and TB. I've checked all my connections twice now and other than go have the codes pulled I don't have a clue as to were to go now except here to the guru's.
It's an 03 CLS 6sp w/130k. I just did a complete timing belt service last week with no problems. I did take it for a test tonight and it ran better than ever. Hesitation seems to be gone and the low end response is way better. Seems crazy... Any good ideas will be put to good use. Thanks.

It might be the same problem what I had before. After I completed the timing belt job, the valve was also done at the following month. Since the timing belt job was perfect, I didn't have any concern about the valve clearance. However I got the CEL with any code like you after that. Then I felt something was wrong from the engine sound at the high RPM such as 4500 or higher. When my CL got into the highway with the high RPM, the rpm suddenly dropped to 4000 or less. I was scared then checked valve gaps. It was fine. However I had to take CL to a shop after a week later since the RPM problem and it couldn't fire up eventually. The mechanic told the the front 3 valves were bent and damaged the engine block because the gap was too tight. I paid around $1300 to replace the valve and block. I hope you get some help from an expert.

Thanks.

Great! I did try and keep the clearance tight, .008/.011 slid in and out ok but you have me wondering now. What CEL codes did yours throw? And did your CEL come right after you started the car or later on down the road?

Go to Autozone and get the code read or buy a cheap code reader.

P0219... "Engine overspeed condition". Only one.

"Evaporative system monitor"... incomplete. I guess it wasn't on long enough to throw a code.

Disconnected battery (30mins) this am and drove to get a scanner, CEL never came back on. 12miles+/-. Car runs sweeeet. So.....

Searching the forums now... Any ideas though civicdrivr?

If it comes back, youve got a problem, if not dont worry about it.

I can't remember the exact code. Mine was came on when it fired up then never gone.
As civicdriver said, if the CEL comes back you might be in trouble. I am not sure why I messed up with the gaps. The one thing I suspected was to misalign TDC.

Right...Thats a code I don't want to see again. I do remember rev limiting it one time a couple of years ago and the codes haven't ever been cleared since. So I'm hoping the work I did threw the ESM CEL and the code has been in there for a while.

If I clear this code and I have a problem, IYO how long do you think it might take to show up again? I mean how long does it take the ECU to sense a problem that overreving could of caused. Or a bad valve clearance job maybe... System seems pretty sensitive.

Usually it takes about 100 miles for the ECU to pick up all the parameters of the engine. It also depends on the serious-ness of the potential issue and if it happens under certain conditions. Basically, it depends

Sorry I dont know how to get those qoutes in the boxes yet.

Thanks hermtm2. I did my best to line those marks up and never really felt 100% sure. Sorry about your luck though.

Youre missing [/quote] at the end of the quotes. You can just hit the quote button, and start typing above or below the quote.

The button next to it with the plus sign is for multi quote. If you want to quote, lets say herms post and my post, you hit the multi-quote button on herms post then the quote button on mine. You can multi-quote as many posts as you want, just make sure you hit the actual quote button on the final post you want to quote.

I think I'll be paranoid for a while but at least I know I did the best job I could. It's much quieter and smoother now but time will tell... always does.
