Help with Starting and Idle after initial start
Hello all - I have recently started having some issues when I start my car, which is a 2001 3.2 CL. I do not have any check engine lights on and had the car state inspected less than a week ago - so this is a bit puzzling.
When I turn the car over it seems to be taking 2-3 seconds to turn over. After starting the engine acts like it is starved for fuel - the engine runs roughly and erratically idles between 500 and 1000 RPMs. I noticed there was some black-grayish smoke coming out of the exhaust.
After about 2-3 minutes the car returns to a normal idle 700-900 RPM range, the car drives normal , no issues at stop signs or lights with the idle and nothing noticable at highway speeds. Also it only seems to do this when the engine has sat overnight or a few hours. I have run into the store and come back out 20 minuets later and started up without any issues. Any ideas on what might be causing this? My initial inclination was that i got a bad tank of gas - I have put some carbon cleaner in the fuel to see if this clears up the problem. I also searched a bit on here and there have been some similar problems that are related to the IAC Valve, but I am not sure that this is the answer since I am only having the problem at start up. I have checked oil and coolant levels - and those all appear to be normal.
Thanks for any ideas anyone might have -

I had the same issue with my 01 cl type s. So I had the fuel injections cleaned, and used an entire big bottle of the lucas fuel treatment on my drive from Miami Cali. havent had that problem occur for over a year now.
