Exclamation Engine/Tranny problem?

Just recently, I woke up and started my car to find the check engine, maintenence required and VSA lights all on. I let it idle for a while to see if anything felt weird, and it was idling a little on the low side.

I took it around the block to see if it would make any difference and the car won't shift into a higher gear until it hits right around 4000 RPM.

I took it back home and came on here.

So last night, I drove it to the gas station to fill up on gas because I've had it run rough when I had bad gas, then on the way back, the car ran fine (with no warning lights). Once I had to idle for a while again though, it went back to running rough and the warning lights came back on.

It is a 2001 CL Type-S with 97,000 miles on it. I was wondering if anyone here has had any similar experience and if they think it is transmission related. I know that I need to have a tune-up soon so I'm wondering if this is related?

MAFS or TPS possibly? I don't think that would have anything to do with it not shifting until 4000rpm unless the computer thinks the engine is struggling (like you are going up a steep hill. Codes would definitely help..I'll ask my dad he is a 35+ year Honda/Acura tech.

This car doesn't use a Mass air sensor...FYI since I've seen it posted a few times recently.

Yeah my bad it has an IAT sensor..which might be mistaken for a MAF since it's located in the same general area of what a MAF might be.

It's running normal again! Maybe some bad gas or something?

I don't know but it sounds like it's time for a tune-up. Just really odd that it came and went like that.

It might be th trans. had the same problems. I took it to acura and it was the TSB that is common with the trans. 3rd clutch pack premutrely goes. if it starts to shift eraticly you know it is about to go. I started noticeing the problem 10000 miles ago. 3800 for the trans. so if you think it might be, its going hurt your wallet

Until you know what codes it's pulling, everyone is simply guessing.

Oh and maintenance required light is a dummy light. Due for service light.

There was a class action lawsuit. I'm going through the same issue right now. I bought the car in September 2007 with 60k. Just last week the transmission gives outs and the 2-3 gears fail to shift properly at 77k.

I had to pay $800 to get the cylinoids replaced before they actually found out there was an internal problem. I had them check the transmission fluid and they found massive amounts of metal in it. Now the cost rises because I have to pay $700 for them to just look at the transmission. I can't even imagine how much it will be to repair it. I do know there was a recall on the vehicle...you can find the info here:

http://auto-recalls.justia.com/conte...-2CL-2001.html

I'm going to call and see what I can get. If I get just 60%, so be it. I'll let you guys know what happens. I just know that once I fix the car, I'm done with Acura and Honda. I'll trade in for a cheap POS since I have $4000 worth of negative equity on the loan.

I really like the car, but the fact that they can't just fix the transmission and keep it from happening again is ridiculous. Like I said...it's a great looking car and everyone gives me compliments on it, but if it doesn't work...what the hell is the point?
