Cold air intake for type S.
Hello all,
I just bought a 2003 CL type S and want to add a cold air intake to it. I've put one on a ford and it was easy, but this looks like a bit more work. Has anyone added one to their car and can give me some information on installing one?? Thanks. Paul

First of all...WELCOME TO AZINE!!! I know someone who just finished that & has the same car as you (I'm assuming you have the 6 speed, lucky guy). Nways, he said the install's pretty much straightforward with just a few alterations to the panel trim near the bottom/side of the front wheelwell/fender. In case you need pics on the install, I think it's here on the site under the DIY section somewhere...maybe one of the mods can lend their wisdom on the section's location...oh, & the search button's always handy as well...

Thanks guys!! And yes, mine is a 6 speed with tan interior. Took 2 months to find a good one!! I did follow your link to the DIY page, but didn't find anything on cold air intake. I didn't have time to search, but there were some other thinks on that page that was very helpful!!! I like that this group, from the threads I have read, are helpful and informative. My last car was a custom FOrd probe GT, and the probe sight had a lot of knowledgable, but not very nice people. Just another advantage to owning an Acura!!!

I just ordered an AEM intake...(waiting to get it still). I found these instructions on the AEM site. They seem pretty detailed. I have an 03 6 speed, so they should work. Tan leather....i haven't seen a CL-S with tan yet. Click the link and at the bottom of the page there is a link to a set of instructions in pdf. Hope it helps.

I'm not going to be putting a bypass valve on my CAI. I did a lot of reading on it, and it seems that the filter really needs to be submerged in water, or if you hit a huge puddle you could get water in the engine. The filter can get a bit wet without sucking water in. I think it also depends on where you live. I don't get tons of rain where i am....and i'm stock height still.

The water issue is called hydrolock & it becomes a REAL SERIOUS ISSUE if you live in areas where there's a chance of the car getting in deep water (over 2.5 feet). Anyways, Excelerate (Josh) who happens to be one of the vendors here explained previously that the filter has to be submerged really deep for any issues to arise. He even went as far as to explain that the bypass valve is actually not necessary & is built not to last. And that's coming from someone who markets the intake. Nice guy though & very knowledgeable...
