CL-S - 2006 TL trannsmission swap project

... so after realising about a year ago, that my transmission is not immune from going toast and several attempts to extend its life - it finally became a TOAST! I got used , out off 2006 TL for $700 shipped. This transmission housing is almost identical from ours and will mount to any J32 motor and I simply do not understand why Acura was rebuilding old trannys with obwious design flaws - I guess it was cheaper and lots of us got popped for couple $

Here are the differences:

1. Harness on the left - has different plug - but thats just straight exchange
2. Shift selector and harness ( bottom to the right ) - has different plug - it is direct bolt on exchange - cover needs to be grind a little to fit.

TL 2006

3. Transmission oil cooler/warmer has different water passage but it is also interchangable

TL 2006

TL has also air breather tube attached to cooler - that needs to be swapped and bolt hole tapped as it has no tread

Besides that and couple of mounting brackets there is no difference in outside dimensions or mounting holes, torque converter is also identical - only the guts are different.

Just got it complited yesterday, it took me about 12 hrs of work with a little goofing around, so if you do it in the shop you shouldnt be charged for more than 8-10 max hours of labor. Tranny is working fine so far, did not notice any difference in the shift points ... ll let you gus know down the run if I notice someting

I'll be attempting this over the weekend, with a 06 TL trans. Fingers crossed!

I got a 01 cl s with a burnt tranny, im between rebulding it or doing a swap to a manual.
how much is it roughly for a at to ml swap. and was your swap from the 04 tl auto or manul .
THANX FOR THE HELP

As you can see on the pictures - both are auto transmissions and I installed 06 TL auto. Manual swap to be done right requires whole chunk of things to be changed: ecm, abs ecm, main wire harness, ckp sensor, etc. , so if you want to do it it is cheaper to get salvage wreck than collect all the parts. I ve seen complete swap kit going for 3k+ in addition labor would be about 1.5k .

Manual will cost mad $$$$. I priced part by part with the Dealership discount and its about 6 grand easy and that is with trans too which costs around 4 grand

If you find a wrecked CL-S 6MT for a steal that would be the best bet to swap over in your Auto but will be a big project which I was going to do till I found the post on the 05 and up TL autos fit in our CL's

I bought an Auto trans and I just swapped the wiring harnessed that did not match up on my old auto transmission and the CL-S is back to life!

The whole project cost me $950 for the trans, $70 for Auto trans cooler(Optional) and a few Qts. of ATF. so $1020 and me doing all the labor with the help of some of my folks too.

I had $2500 for the 6MT I was going to by and with this route I took I saved $1480 which is always GOOD!

sorry for the necropost everbody, I have a auto 2001 cl-s. I'm looking to do the same, my question is will a 2007 or 2008 TL trans swap in as easily as the '05 and '06's? I'm finding lots of the TL '07 and 08's trans' easier than the accord 05' and 06. thanks

Go to the 2nd gen TL section and look up the 06-07 accord swap aka AV6 swap.
