Car making alot of noise when accelerating like vib5rating tin can...

So I get my car back from getting the tranny installed wensday and it seems fine. Today when accelerating making really annoying noise at certain RPM.s Im guessing its my headers resonating. Its only when accelerating from slower speeds and when it gets to HWY speed no more sounds, but when acceleation its like im draging metal. when nutral or park not really any noise only when accelerating.. I had headers put in months ago w/no noise, when taking out a tranny do u gotta dissconect anything to do with the headers..
I hope it something where i dont have to spend any $$ cuz this car is sucking me DRY!!!NOW!!!

its somewhere along the exhaust pipes.

it could be a muffler, cat, aftermarket header flex pipe, etc. go to a muffler shop. should be around 100-200.

The down-pipe doesn't have to come out to do the job. But its in the way of everything. The whole sub-frame "cradle" underneath the down-pipe that connects the suspension and the trans itself, axels, starter etc. all have to come out. I bet they saw your new headers and figured the down-pipe would come out real easy. So they may have taken it off to save some time. However if they left it on I guarantee it got bumped around, knocked, leaned on etc... That may be the case

I used to see these replaced on a daily basis when I worked at an Acura dealer in 05(parts dept). Back then it was in the middle of a full blown recall, warranty nightmare. CL, TL, MDX all the same crap. There were 2 guys who all they did everyday was transmission R&R. I logged them in and out and scheduled pick up and delivery, so they passed through my hands too. We were making a killing on those and Honda got the bill. Crazy! But nobody was complaining because everybody had work.

headers seem to hit in two places
front crossmember under the radiator check the j pipe clearance
if it has been vibrating you will see the wear spot on the weld line and on the header

j bend in the oilpan where the cat joins
make sure its not bouncing on your oil pan

could just be a loose heat shield on the cat if he decided to break the headers off

Im hoping its just the heat sheild , When I installed My headers one of the nutz broke off so i left one off, so that might be the problem, the tech said it might make noise in the futurs and the tranny people maybee messed something up of moved something.. If i take off the heat sheild would that be bad, or it really would not make a difference!

Yeah It sounds like its comming from down there, But only when moving and a certain RPM,s its like vibrating metalic noise...REALLY ANNOYING.. worste then a civic w/fartpipe at certain RPM's ... So the heatshield basically serves no purpose? It is not there to protect the Cat from rocks being kicked up?

So it sheilds the heat.. Its not like im gonna go touch it after driving..
So if I take off my heat sheild (hopefully solve rattle) and park under some dry leaves can the heat w/o the shield start a fire or summtin?

does it sound like single tin can layer vibrating or multiple tin can layers?
i dont believe it has anything to do with the tranny.

i dont have any heat shield on my headers either.

I know it's not the tranny but I think when they took the traany out or put it In they messed something up. They say they don't take out the downpipe but it started happening after they rebuilt the tranny. I know it's not the tranny just what they did when they reinstalled the tranny

someone correct me if I'm wrong but don't they have to remove the headers to replace the transmission? I remember reading/hearing that from somewhere..

not the headers but the J-pipe is in the way u can drop the tranny w/o removing it but the could have moved something or maybee even too the J-pipe off cuz it was so new and was easier to drop the tranny with the j-pipe off, i dunno.
all i know for 6 months after the headers where installed no noise, no 3 days after tranny gets rebuilt there is noise from that area.

like civic said. jack up the car, if you need to, and check the heat shield (after the car has cooled). my heat shield was rattling like hell especially stopped at a red light or on a hill. i took it off last year.

hopefully it is the heat shield b/c it's an easy fix and won't cost you anything. good luck man

try what civic said. I had that noise before. I thought it was heatshield.
so i took'em out, but noise was still there. getting louder louder... so i jacked my car up and climb under the car while my friend was revving up. it was cat. man that noise was f#$king annoying me! so i just replaced RT cat. I hope yours is just heatshield.

It was wierd cuz in park reving no noise.

Just when driving and a certain RPM's at like 25-35 MPH it was annoying and very load but when i got up to HWY speed no noise..

Hey guys,

I have the same rattle vibration sound at around 2000 rpm. Mostly in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. A low cheap sound rattle.

So when you say remove the heat shield do you mean all of that tin heat shield above the entire exhaust system, or just the heat shield around the cat. Because I removed the one around the cat and I still have the sound.

I also still have the noise after taking off the heat shield, It comes and it goes..I am sure inside the cat is falling to peices cuz that exactly what it sounds like and sometimes it gets hung up. I dont have any money to replace my cat right now so I am gonna live with it...For now!!

I just rev a little higher and when I shift into 4th and 5th it never goes below 2000. I never hear it this way. Doesn't seem to affect gas mileage that much.

it doesnt have to be the cat. it can also be a internally bad/rusted muffler.

Some guy on another thread said that he replaced the entire exhaust system and he still gets the noise. Maybe it's the exhaust mounts?
