bad differential/transmission
Hey guys so I recently hit something on the road (underneath my car) and it started making this noise that sounds like a bearing, but its only heard when I drive really close to parked cars on the road.
I brought the car to a shop and they said its the differential for sure, so my insurance is paying for a new transmission. However, the shop is telling me that replacing the transmission does not guarantee that the noise will go away. In fact, several professional transmission shops said the same thing. I don't know what to do.
Anyone ever replace their differential or experience anything like this?
Thanks.

I'm not a pro but "I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express" the differential is in the tranny so if you replace the tranny you replace the diff. If they r telling you this might not fix the problem then they don't actually KNOW it's the diff. They r only making an educated guess but it's still a guess. Most Acura dealers will inspect the car for 100 dollars and give you a very detailed report on any problems, how bad they r and how much it will cost to repair broken down in to parts and labor and they will credit the 100 dollars toward repairs made at the dealer. If you don't have a good machanic you know and can trust Acura is the only way to go. I hope this is helpful and good luck
