2001 Acura CL Transmission Issues

whats going Members & Entusiasts - I own a 2001 Acura CL with about 186k On it. I do all of my Mainttenance repairs as followed. Oil Change, Tune Up, Brakes, The basics ect. it is my daily driver and i use for work. Mainly Highway Miles. I put about roughly 30k miles a year. i had it for about 3.5 Years..
I ran into some issues with my car where im kind of clueless on whats going on. To avoid spending unnessary money. i would to get some suggestions....

:I check my oil level before turning my car on. Start it, warm it up, get on the road everything "Seems" Fine no check engine light nothing...As im driving everything is idling proper...but as soon as i get off the exit and i deccelerate my car automatically downshifts into random gears. from 5th to 3rd then it will shift into 4th to 5th as im slowing down. as im slowing down my car shifts gears. If i come to a full stop, it will not grab the gear and will stay nuetral. with the shifter being in drive mode. Its almost as if something inside the trans mission is getting to hot and is ceasing the gear.....but if i shut the car off and let it cool down for about 15 minutes. ill start the car back up and put it into gear...and then it grabs. i also checked my transmission fluid "which showed Brown Coloration" i know its suppose to be red....

MY Question is do you think the transmission is blown ?
Or Should i Try replacing the fluids in the tranny?
Or If i should repair the transmission
I did not bring it to the shop yet because of the Hours i work...

if i left out any information please feel free to ask...again i really do appreciate your feed back...

These cars had faulty transmissions and most automatics have been replaced,I am driving a 2001 CL with minor issues with tranny ( 173k) and I'll junk it when it fails.Tranny quote was $2800 at local shop.

Change the fluid out first and see if that helps. Thats the cheapest and easiest.

Are there any warning lights on the dash, especially when the transmission isn't functioning properly? It really sounds to me like your trans is a goner. If you want more info on the trans, I wrote up a post about what seems to be the main problem with the automatic transmission in the 2nd Gen CL's here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...75&postcount=6
That may or may not help you decide what's wrong with your trans.

I have a 2001 Acura cl s style. I noticed today
When I was driving with the car in 5 gear
That at around 40 to 50 mph the rpms
Fluctuate from around 1800 to 2000 rpms
But still runs and shifts fine just at low speed. If I
Down shift to fourth by the way it's automatic
Transmission the rpms don't fluctuate. Is
The car confused and shifting in and out of
Overdrive or is that something major. Any
Advise would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If you have a J series with an automatic transmission, and it has transmission problems, you either do need or will need a transmission.

How do I tell what series it is? This is the first
Acura I've owned and it has been nothing but
Trouble. I noticed it is also starting to leak
Alittle oil tuning down transmission. Can anything
Else go wrong. It's a nice car just so many
Little problems.

Any Acura CL or TL (1999-2005), MDX (2000-2005) and any Honda with a V6 up to 2005 has the problem transmission. After 2005, they revised and changed the design.
