03 cls clutch adjustment
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the clutch on a 03 cls six speed? Mine is not grabbing until the last couple of inches on the pedal.

Thanks fuzzy, is this normal to have only a couple of inches of the clutch stroke active? My car has only 35,000 kilometers, surely the clutch can't be going already, I've only had the car 2yrs and it had 23,000 on when I bought it. The clutch has always been like this, once it engages it is solid.
My previous cl was an 01 auto, great car with the exception of the 2 transmissions, first at 110,000 kilos and second at 264,000 kilo, better then most.

Same problem. It really is a disappointment. Why the fuck has an AM clutch been "officially" produced? I know the market is small but damn!
Also, mine feels like it kind of "fumbles" right after engaging. It don't know if I would call is slippage but it certainly doesn't grab immediately. I wounder sometimes if it might be the motor mounts. I know there are issues with them as well but I dont know if the mm's could be responsible for the "fumble". But the "fumble" does kind of feel like a front to back rocking motion from the engine. I don't know...Any of yous guys have any thoughts? Also, at what mileage are you changing your plugs? And what are the symptoms of bad plugs?
(sorry for the hijack)

The Answer (Hopefully)
Hey guys, I recently picked up an '03 CL-S 6-speed and I love it! Honestly I've only had it a few days and everything is great so far, except for the late clutch engagement point... I definitely notice this too, and I think I have a solution. I also own a 1997 BMW E39 540i 6-speed. The 540i is known to have the same issue of unnecessary pedal travel before the engagement point, and a popular mod to remedy this is the clutch stop mod.
Under the clutch pedal of the 540i is a small rubber disk that is screwed in to the floor. This mod is so popular because it is so fast, cheap, and easy to do. All you do is essentially construct a replacement clutch stop that is taller than the stock one, thus eliminating the unnecessary pedal travel. Here's the link to the bimmerforums post describing how to make it.

Obviously the process will not be exactly the same as they are vastly different cars, but a little creativity could yield some great results.
I highly recommend this mod... This combined with the short throw shifter in my 540i has significantly reduced my shift times, increased clutch feel, and made my driving experience just better overall. I never thought such a simple mod would be so great, but fortunately I was wrong.
I'm going to try and work on a similar clutch stop for the CL-S sometime soon, and I will post pictures and info as soon as I can. Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Alex
PS: On the subject of short throw shifters... Does anyone know where I can find one for the CL-S? Let me know!

Whats up with RDX owners?

Elijah:
Search for the CDD. That may be a reason why it feels like its "slipping".

Hi Guys, I just made a clutch stop like I said I was going to do. It looked good, so I installed it, turned the car on and... nothing. I learned the hard way that the clutch pedal needs to be FULLY depressed to the floor in order for the car to start. What I need to know now is how to turn off or modify this sensor so that the car will start without the clutch being all the way "in", even with the clutch stop. The frustrating part is that obviously I'm not going to turn on the car while it's in gear... I want to be able to start the car at the exact point where the clutch begins to engage, with the clutch stop eliminating the unnecessary pedal travel.
So, what I need to know is:
1. Where is the sensor that detects the clutch being all the way depressed in order to start the car?
2. How the do I turn the damn thing off???
1,000,000 Internets to whoever can tell me this.
Thanks,
Alex

There are two switches up above the clutch pedal. I believe the one on the top is the clutch inhibitor, the one on the bottom is for controlling your cruise control.
By disconnecting the switch on the top, you'll be able to start the car without stepping on the clutch. So you'll lose that safety feature. However, for things like remote starts, that switch has to be disconnected in order to start the car with a remote.
Hope that helps.

I just had my clutch replaced by the dealer and even with everything new it still doesn't engage until you release it more than half way. It's much better than it was before I replaced the disk but still not as low as on some other cars that I have driven.
