0-30 or 0-20 synthetic benefits?

I currently use 5-30 Mobil One and have taken note that Mobil has come out with a 0-20 & 0-30 weight oil that they claim increases gas mileage by reducing friction. If it reduces friction then performance should increase.

Are there any cons to going 0-20 or 0-30 weight??

I wouldn't do it now during summer. But I read a post about an article that showed it to be acceptable during the proper temperatures.

Yes it gets plenty hot down here in the summer K7 just like in your neck of the woods.

I see you have a Premium model. I took the 03 for a good run and was shocked by the acceleration. I have run a 14.1 in the qtr in my CLs and the premium felt almost as quick until the five grand range and spun the tires easily from a standing start.

This weekend I will run it with my Gtech accelerometer and see what it can do in the qtr. It is all stock.

Can you advise on the mid muffler delete??

Oak.. I'll pipe in since I was wondering the same about the mid-muffler delete. the TLs have a resonator => mid-muffler => mufflers
CL-Ss have a mid-muffler => mufflers (no resonator)
a TL with a mid-muffler delete (leaving just the resonators and mufflers) sounds sweet
a CL-S without the mid-muffler sounds annoying and raspy from what I have heard. there are a few vids on youtube.
If I do end up keeping my car (getting a transmission rebuild right now), I'll probably have the mid-muffler deleted, and a resonator put in.

About the oil, I would probably use it in cooler climates or during the winter time. This is because the oil is thinner to begin with. Since the oil flows better cold, it's also said that it protects the engine quicker upon start up. But once its at operating temp, there are discussions about how it may lack protection then.

The MPG gain claims are minimal if any. A couple of percent will only yield a few more miles per tank. Other maintiance items like a clean air filter and properly (or slightly) inflated tires along with slow acceleration and slow freeway driving will yield much better claims.

I suggest going to bobistheoil.com and reading more about oil there. It's a great oil forum.

I would be hesitant to put 0-20 in any car, if you are down in the Southern region of the US. 5w-30 or 0-30 is a better choice.

I'd use 0W-20 in the winter time. But it should be okay since its compatable with 5W-20 cars (according to the bottle) and the 03 CL runs 5W-20.
