W7 Install

Its a pretty standard W7 install. I have the sealed box, JL 1000.1 amp, and a Lightning 1 farad cap. The headlights dont dim at all, but the guage cluster does alot, even on the expressway. I may look into a better battery, but for now I'll leave it alone.

Anyways, I'm very happy with them. Aside from having to probably take out the trunklid tension bars (hitting the top of the box) it was a trouble free install and delivers more bass than I'll ever realistically need. Now I gotta get new door speakers & tweeters, cuz it def drowns them out.

And I put it in here too, cuz alot of people dont frequent the audio/video forum.

I would've opted for a non-JL box made to fit the trunk of our cars. I built a sealed box for my W7 and made it to the dimensions that were required by JL and fabbed a box to fit under my navi dvd player in the trunk.

that box is just too big for our trunks imo.

I dont ever use my trunk, and I got it as a package. No way I'd pay extra for a custom box, as I can sell it to anyone if I ever want to.

I purposely had the amp/cap mounted there because why hide it? They have a new cover for the 1000.1 that is chrome and it looks sweet, but they dont sell it separate. I might get the amp cover plate chromed eventually to make it look a little flashier.

Hey bud. I'm not intending to steal your thunder here. I can vouch that this sub is amazing. Nice little setup you have there. Only reason I am posting a pic of mine is because I was going to do something like yours, but opted to go a different route, so I can use the other half of my trunk. This pic is when it wasnt fully installed, but you get the point. It's all finished now, I just dont have an updated pic yet.

I would do something about that cap top. The positive and negative screws are way too exposed. That can be really bad news.

With the cap, I'm surprised you have dimming on the dash lights. If you don't ever use the trunk, so be it. I use mine, couldn't do something like that.

Nice setup though1

that box is cool. Every time I handle one though, I'm scared to lift it up by the metal things.

Has anyone noticed a difference in performance with where things int he trunk are placed. I've had 2 different trunk setups. The one with the majority of the weight between the towers is much better. Back end feels smore secure. I have a full finished trunk.

UNC nice install.

I could have gone the custom route and had some space left open, but I had no desire to drop hundreds more in install costs since I dont use the trunk at all. Plus, if I ever decide to sell it or even if I just want to take it out for the track or something, its not a big deal.

I dont see why the cap sitting out it bad? I'll never set anything on top of it and I check the connection tightness every month or so to ensure everything is good.

Also, its alot more expensive and difficult to make a custom box to the specs of the 13W7 versus say a 10W7, and the space sazed is less also.

Joe- I didnt spend 100's of dollars doing that. I bought some carpet that matched my trunk color, bought some wood, and put it together. I also have a thick chain going from a link that was existing in the trunk, to the rack. I like to call it an anchor. In case anyone wants to steal my system, they cant unless they take chain cutters. All in all, costed about 60 bucks or so with the help of my buddy,

Well remember tho, you have a 10, the box size and dimensions for the 13 are alot bigger. And to be honest I didnt want to. If I sell the car/sub ever i can just pull it out and sell it to anyone, not just someone with a CL. The box came as part of the package, so its not like I paid extra for it.

Plus, I only have a very limited supply of handtools, not even a power saw. I'd spend a ton in tools and have what, 1 sq foot of trunk space.

And I have insurance on it already ( added extra onto my auto policy) and I plan on carpeting a 2x4 and screwing it down between the amp rack and front of the box so the grilles dont hit the amp. If I can I am going to try to push it further back once I take the trunklid torsion bars out. The box is hitting them and it causing the torsion bars to pop after I open & close the trunk. Minor issues though for a shiiiite load of bass.

On a couple certain songs (like soul survivor) the ROOF flexes quite a bit.

Listen to the song "Go to sleep, bitch" by Eminem. That'll rattle your sunroof out.

My sub is in the box which is connected to that rack. A few simple screws to take out and I can sell the box just like yours to anyone. Different strokes for different folks, but I agree, some songs can definately shake the moonroof/roof of the car.

Yes, but the 13W7 box is 3.5" taller than the 10W7 box, and it makes a difference. I cant even push the box under the shelf because the top of it is hitting the magnet of the rear shelf speakers. I'm gonna try to push it back as far as I can.

Listened to it this afternoon, its pretty decent but alot of other songs hit ALOT lower. It was pretty much a constant tone, where some other songs really bottom out alot deeper.

Anyways tho thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, and see my thread in the av forum too. I want to replace them I think, as some rap songs get overplayed by the subs when I turn it up.

I have a 13w7 in a prowedge box on the way right now, and I'm putting it in my 99 CL, any input as to installs? Powered by a 1000/1. I was also told I won't need a cap due to JL's circuitry.

Thats what I had, and I used a cap and still had dimming of all my lights.

I ended up selling the setup because the amp would run how and go into protect mode, plus it made the back end of my car sag because it was so heavy and i was lowered.

Good luck, its gonna be loud.

using a cap

What size cap did you use? I have heard anything under 5 farads is useless, plus you should really have an Optima battery and the fatter connections from battery to ground etc...

I only had a 1 farad and stock battery. Thats why I sold the system, wasnt worth the hassle or money, plus it slowed the car down ALOT. I am about to put in a small 300w rms dual 10" Infinity Perfect setup. Should be alot lighter and still sound good.

This is exactly what I plan on doing. What amp are you going to be using? I really want to run this with a set up of avincar speakers, sucks you can't get em anymore. Im thinking of going with Kappas and disconnecting the tweater in the 6x9s.

Be careful how much you crank your sound up. Got a friend that told me he knows someone that turned his up too loud one day. It actually bent his trunk lid permanently and then could not close it afterward.

I have an Audiobahn 1801X. Its a class A/B and is good for ~ 400w RMS, but since the Perfects are so sensitive I probably will only need to run them about 1/2 gain.

And I wish the Avincar was still around, but there are decent components out there for similar money. I am actually pretty happy with the Bose mids/highs, especially if you have subs, you can turn the bass down on the components and still have full bass. It really helps the clarity of the components.

1. Get rid of the cap, its not necessary.
2. Get an optima yellow top or just a better battery.
3. do the big 3 upgrade: http://www.icixsound.com/iv/view_vid...d620bcedc94a4b
4. if possible, use 0 gauge wire.

I wanted get a JL W713 enclosed in a prowedge. I wouldn't like to have the problems closing my trunk however so i'll grudgingly opt for the 12" instead. That should fit no problem, right?

I'll be powering the sub with an autotek 1000watt D-Class
