Depending on the mileage and while you have that half shaft assembly off the car, it might be a good time to change the bearing and seal.

Hmm. Did that axle have the damper on it? Looks like I might have to pony up for oem axles.

Nope this one was without damper. I would wait and get the custom GB axles. Not worth to spent $1600 on oem axles... Even dealer doesnt put them on they are too expensive... They use aftermarket ones.

In your pic below, it looks like that heavy black border sitting in the circumference of the metal bearing support.

so today i noticed when i shut off the car it dies differently like there is something wrong... you do some work on the car you'll notice if something acts a bit different...

right after i shut it off i could hear like there was a little air leak somewhere so i start checking where is it coming from and its coming from the oil dip stick... looks like PCV valve is clogged or broken.

Has anyone ever replace their valve ? not sure where is it located right now... should i get new one or just clean it and put it back ?

ok i think i forgot what it was PCV valve but now i know and it doesnt seem to be clogged...

StreetKA, when you had the intermediate half shaft assembly out of your car recently, did the shaft as it enters the bearing housing have any play/slack to it?

I replaced the half shaft (it was the original OEM w/131K) on my car yesterday and it had a sh*t load of rotational play to it. This occurred when holding the bearing housing against a flat surface and then performing a circular movement of the shaft without actually turning it in the bearing housing.

Compared to the new one, the old one was really bad. It (the play) was not noticeable while on the car because of the fixed shaft mounting in the tranny and to the block. However, when it was removed it was significant.

Hopefully it is not piston rings.

IMHO, If you replace the PCV, go OEM over aftermarket for best results.

I might pick up a new one when the DSS axles come in just for added security. My car has almost 156k miles on it, and 100k of those are with me at the helm.

It better not be another fucking ring

And definitely go OEM on the valve, they dont cost a whole lot.

I've been chasing a clicking noise that I hear as I go at a constant speed. It is especially noticeable while going through enclosed parking garages. This was the last thing on my list, so, now I'm pretty convinced it may be my diff bearings.

Anyways, purchase the whole assembly P# 44500-S87-A00 rather than messing with replacing the bearing, it's alot simpler. The part # is the same for the 98-02 V6 Accord, so you can save a few bucks getting it from Honda over Acura.

Any luck with the problem you are running into?

You can hear air pressure releasing from the oil dip stick tube at engine shutoff?

Is it enough pressure to actually push the fully inserted oil dip stick up and out of the oil level pipe?

I understand.

BTW, talking about annoying sounds, when you had your tranny rebuilt, did it or the carrier bearings make any noises out of the ordinary that alerted you to them being worn while driving the car?

Thanks.

Tbh i think the differential bearings were fine... The counter shaft were shot though. I just replaced to be safe.

Im getting some vibrations lately after i replaced rotors and balanced my wheels i think its an axle... Which has 5k miles tops

So finally i found the time to fix the tranny leak.

It was leaking from behind the tranny mount bracket. The cap was leaking

So i ordered new oring for this cap and once i got it i decided to go ahead and replace it.

What i found out is that we do have an oil filter in 6mt tranny which is located behind that cap

So i took the cap a closer look, removed the oring which looked fine to see this.

There was like hair line crack all around the oring which was the reason why i was leaking oil. I have freaking idea how did it broke... I can speculate about it but personaly i never touched that and to my knowledge no one did.

Luckily i still have a spare tranny in my garage so i could use the cap from it and i will order new cap probably today. I just cant imagine how could this thing crack like this.

Anyway no more leaks and everything is fine.
