Painting the Engine Cover

I want to paint the engine cover something along the lines of red or orange, what kind of paint would I use and are there any techniques you guys recommend?

I am thinking of keeping the engine block the stock silver (no paint on the actual engine) and just polishing it to look extra pretty. The final paint color will determine what color CAI I purchase...

For orange I am thinking something like this:

and for Red:

Tips, opinions?

what part of the engine would you polish?? If you're painting your covers you won't see any of the engine.

Just make sure you clean the covers well before hand. Maybe a fine scuff and a degreaser/clean. there are adhesion promoters for painting things that flex. Primer, paint, and clear.

on my engine, the very top of the valve cover shows through as there is a rectangular opening (see below) in the plastic cover.

The silver part in the middle.

And I am going to pain these:

The scuff, primer, paint and clear is a process I am familiar with from my snow-camo Razer Lycosa project a while back.

I already gave both items a good hosedown with hot water in my bathtub (until the water stopped running black ). Do you think break cleaner would be too much for the cover or should I tone it way down to something like rubbing alcohol? Also, can I get away with using plain old plastic paint or do I need a specific high-temp paint?

That silver plate is the top plate of the intake manifold. On my old CL I painted my covers satin silver and left the top plate alone. Looked good. I got all my supplies from an auto body/paint store. They mixed satin silver paint in an aerosol can.
Also the 3.2 Acura on the smaller cover will pop out. Will make painting easier.

I already popped it off. I am leaning towards the red since I want some red under the hood (adds 10 horsepower and 3 torque).

So it was finally sunny and warm enough to derp around with attempting this project...

and since my HTC Sensation's camera is crap, this is more or less what the color actually looks like....

I'm going to remove the masking tape at around 3:00 pm today, I want to give the paint a total of about 6 hours to dry up before I kill the final project, did that to my Lycosa when I painted it and it felt bad man...

I decided to leave the "*ACURA BADGE* 3.2 VTEC " plate stock as the black with red accents should look nice and be a good contrast to the cover and I also left the ignition coil/belt cover stock as well since I want a red/black theme.

I'm attaching it today or tomorrow, depends on when the CL gets back from its doctors appointment (mechanic). Next up, a red C.A.I.
