i took the CL rails and seperated the brackets already

took 2 hours to figure out how to remove the rails from the RSX seats. I still dont know if I did it the right way, but they came out finally.

Funny thing is, no body at Honda knew how to separate them, its like as if the rails were never supposed to be separated. On the CL its just two bolts holding them.

I've dropped the seats off at an upholstery shop with a friend. he'll make a couple of repairs and then they should be like brand new. should get them back in about two days. then its off to welding.

Pending the outcome, do you mind welding up a set of rails for me?

I can turn a wrench, I can wire stuff up, I just cant fucking weld

welding is not hard. just get the right voltage and wire speed. then make over lapping ovals. not aluminum is hard.

Premature rusting seems to always occur after an average weld though unless treated afterwards

especially MIG welding is easy, especially when you got thicker steel such as in those seat rails (sheetmetal is harder cause of possible burn through)

and for nspec, use a seperate shielding gas (argon normally), and not that flux-cored bullshit of a wire, it leaves splatters, and just looks like shit welds in general cause of it

as far as taking apart the seat rails, they normally come as an assembly, and are put on as an assembly, so nobody at the dealer will have taken them apart actually, just bolt on the new ones, and call it good (maybe slide them back and forth to get to all the bolts though)

bolt on the new what? rails/brackets? u cant. they have to be welded on. I dont know if there are other ways to put these seats in our car, other than the way i'm doing it.

Also i just got done removing the brackets from RSX rails. major pain in the ass

took like an hour just to the passenger seat rails. i'll do the driver side in the morning

when the dealer puts on new rails, when the old ones get damaged somehow (like a coin or something jammed in there, that they can't get out, so a new rail)
as far as stock seats go, no welding is neccesary, just a bolt-on affair

That would work if the bolt holes on both seats were the same.

Unless youre talking about something else.

the reason for the dealer not knowing how to pull APART the rails, not exactly like they go around swapping seats between cars...

they dont bolt on rails. they have to remove the whole assembly (in the RSX atleast) and replace that.

so

RSX: The whole assembly has to be replaced (according to the dealer and it looks easier to do so too.

CLs: The rails do bolt off (the reason why is because these rails have powered moving parts inside and if something happens, if they get stuck or break, the rails can bolt off and the parts can be changed, this will keep the cost low on fixing them.

I spent two hours trying to figure out how to take those RSX rails apart and I honestly dont think any body else can figure that out, because I found the way accidentally. These rails aren't meant to be taken apart because they're pressed on together by a press.

the brackets are put together with some thick ass rivets and some welds. There aren't any bolts holding them. Thats why its a pain in the ass to take them off. You have to grind the rivets off and each rivet literally takes like 10 minutes. there are 3 rivets in each rail and 4 rails per seat = 2 hrs.

i was able to cut the time down by using a heavy duty grinder with a 4" disk.

part of the reason i was saying that they are not meant to normally come apart, and you replace it as an assembly (but yeah on ours you can do each rail seperate, where RSX has to be both )

then as shown in the parts diagram, only comes as a WHOLE assembly

even the Cl comes as an assembly too, just smaller ones instead (or maybe not, and you HAVE to also buy the motors too, if you just want the rails themselves; i don't see a seperate number for them)

good luck on the seats. I am gonna have to put my seat project on hold as my car will have to go back to the bodyshop and get work/resprayed 2nd time this year now . I have a nice fabricator that will help me with the seat install/welding etc when the time comes.

Seriously? I thought they used to bolt the rails to the seat pan. Thats crazy.

BTW, I take a drill bit that is about the same size as the head of the rivet and just drill the top off. Takes about 30 seconds. Thats how I chop motorcycles exhausts.

x2, even ours are kinda bolted to the pan itself, and not like the rsx one where you have to pull all the foam and such off, to transfer it to the "new" rails

the reason why is because these are some thick ass rivets. They're pressed on with a heavy duty press i think. if you get a chance take a look at it. I guess the reason why they're so thick is because it becomes a safety issue because those rivets are the only things holding the whole seat to the bracket and floor.

oh and drilling will not work on these. unless you have a press drill, then it might work.

Did you ever get a chance to take a picture of the rails?

look at #16 & 17. Those parts go in between the rails, in order to take those off, the rails have to be taken apart. thats why the rails are bolted on together in our cars. The RSX seats dont have that so they just pressed all the rails together.

look at the two bottom bolts on #16. when you take those off, that releases the bottom rail from that mechanism. and then you can slide the rail out.

but then again look at those bolts included with them, with how the hold the screw block to the rail, undoing those might just let the whole power assembly slide out though idk, don't have a whole lot of experence in powerseat repairs (cause if you gotta normally pull the part itself aprart to actually assemble it, then it normally is some other way to actually do it though)
