new slotted rotoras and black calipers

installed my new slotted rotoras, rotora pads, SS brake lines (thanks Excelerate!), and legend calipers this past weekend. also painted all calipers black.

check 'em out:

Looks nice and clean there. How's the brake feel compared to stock now?

i replaced oem pads with only 10K miles on them so i didn't gain much pedal. it was definitely the $110 for the calipers, but i wouldn't pay too much more than that. the gain in braking power is ok but not substantial. the SS brake lines do feel more responsive. and the new rotors aren't warping like my old rusty oems.

keep in mind that i haven't really slammed on them since they're new. i will after a few hundred more miles. maybe the legend calipers will wow me then. i do love the look of the slotted rotoras and black calipers.

got them remanufactured from napa for $55 each plus $66 core charge each. Just ask for 1995 Legend LS coupe front calipers and swap left for right.

legend calipers have dual pistons vs CL's single piston. if nothing else, the legend calipers should not warp rotors like the CL's did. performance should be better once broken in. search the forum, there are lots of threads about legend calipers.

got the rotors from Excelerate from the black market. $165 for fronts, $140 for rears, quick and reasonable shipping. got the brake lines and pads from him too.

oh, and thanks!

yeah why did u go with legend calipers? ive owned two '91 acura legends (5spd coupe and A/T sedan) and the brakes were far from anything special. id think ud wanna go with the NSX calipers or something...i am ignorant tho so please do enlighten me.

NSX calipers are very similar to Legend calipers, but way more expensive since they are painted and say "NSX" on them.

The Legend calipers have better stopping power than the NSX ones because they have bigger pistons. When I was looking, I just had no luck finding Legend ones in good shape. The NSX ones I got were practically brand new.

Those pics look pretty sweet. Any close ups?

Overall what is the longterm effect of having Legend Calipers? Do they last longer than stock CL calibers? Is their any other reason for the upgrage besides preventing rotor warping?

not sure of long term effects, i've only had them for 3 days. i don't see any reason why one caliper would last longer than the other.

ppl claim better stopping power with the dual piston legend calipers. plus, with the number of ppl complaining about warped rotors (everyone), isn't it enough that they'll prevent warping?

There is a lot better stopping power with the Legend or NSX calipers. The stock CL caliper have a single 45 mm piston. The Legend have duel pistons, one is a 42 mm and the other is a 38. The NSX also have duel pistons, one is a 34 mm and the other is a 36. Do the math, it's more surface area contact with the pad.

One thing I did notice is that it ate through my EBC pads. So, I'm thinking it definately bit down better on the rotors.

Yeah, it make sense. I would definetly consider this upgrade but, Can i exchange my calipers for rebuild legend calipers or do i have to buy used ones?

i think only the type II legends had upgraded dual piston front calipers

good shit. that's good you aren't going on like many to stomping on the new brakes busting some high-speed braking and complaining about jacked up rotors later.

fyi, napa didn't even open the box. got my $140 core charges back.
cost of upgrade to dual-piston calipers: $110. not a bad deal for a poor man's bbk.
