My first Acura

I recently purchased a 2001 CL-s from a private owner with just over 150k miles on it.At 45 years old,I have owned many many cars over the years,I can say with no hesitation that this is one fine automobile! I have never owned such a well rounded vehicle in my life, the combination of comfort, performance, fuel efficiancy,&all around good looks is unreal! The guy was asking $5800 for it,& I got him down to $5200.The previous owner had all the service records, and the car lived in the garage, right next to his wifes MDX. The car is completly stock, never messed with by anyone(I plan on doing some minor bolt-on's soon) I plan on doing a cold-air intake, exhaust, and maybe a tune,or some kind of chip.If anyone would like to share some info on which brand of parts are best for these mods,I would be happy to listen! My only imediate concern is all the talk I hear about the tranny problems, which I am not sure if mine has had a replacement done, the records I got were only from the guy I bought it from.Anyway, I look forward to getting to know some fellow CL owners, and sharing info!

welcome. Check out the FAQ page here: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/%2A%2A%2A-official-2nd-gen-cl-information-thread-%2A%2A%2A-480087/

Hopefully the tranny holds up for you. Intake options include Comptech, P2R, AEM, Injen etc. Headers; look at DC headers. Best hp/$ mod. Also look into a lightweight or underdrive crank pulley. Lots of info here so be sure to search first.

Info found!

Thanks gnuts! As far as my trans. is concerned,I had my son call the Acura dealership to run my VIN to see what had been done to it,(he works at a chevy dealership ,but the owner has several other dealerships, including Ferman Acura,he is the parts specialist at Chevy) I found out that the tranny was checked out,& they adjusted the fluid pressure for the 1st, to 2nd gear shift, which makes sense because I noticed it has a harder 2nd to 3rd shift than the 1st to 2nd,so now I know why.I also found out that the 1st owner did all the maint. at the Acura dlrshp.on time religiosly for the 8yrs. she owned it,she stayed on top of everything like a champ. The timing belt & water pump has been done once at I believe 80k,so it might be time to do it again soon. The only service records I dont have is from the 2nd owner, but he only had the car for a year.I plan on doing the CAI real soon,as well as replacing just the 2 mufflers(gonna do full exhhaust eventually) for now, I need to find the deepest tone mufflers made, but want it to sound mean under hard xlr8-tion,any advice for that?? Thanks,I will check back to see if you have replied to this post,Allen

there aren't many bolt on mufflers for the CL. Comptech, Tanabe. You can also get magnaflow's or i think the Greddy Evo II mufflers have a deep sound but require to be welded on. I think there are youtube videos of those setups on a CL you may want to check out.

I just purchased my first Acura as well, an 03' CL-S. Bone stock, no issues and I'm loving it. Best of luck with yours!
