My cheap upgrade project at home!!

I wanted something new on my CL and decided to paint the engine cover. I could have done a better job but I think it came out pretty well. Anyway, I just want to share with you guys.
To haters, I know it could look so ricey and it didn't give me any hp But I LIKE IT!! that's only thing that matters.

Before (took the cover)

Painted

Put on

Intake should be cleaned though : )

400 grit sand (hard)
2 coats of primer (regular red)
400 grit sand (soft wet sand)
4 coats of base coat (high temp)
3 coats of clear coat (high temp)
and done!!

Possible next job: repaint red caliper to black, take off or paint the mudguards glossy black

- 2001 Black CL-S
- HKS Super Dragger Exhaust
- AEM Cold Air Intake

Thanks for the great comments, guys. h2o-pr00f, it was really easy to do. It was my first paint job. You just follow what I did (sand, prime, wet sand, coat, clearcoat). Worth $15 for the look. Also, it's not body paint, but just a plastic. You can always mess with it

I was copied!!!!!

Very, very nice job. I ran out of paint when it came to the battery cover.

But since the thermoblok mods, no more engine cover.

Lookin good man.

Did you try and get paint to match up to the CAI before you went through with the process?

Looks great either way though.

if you want to match the color to your CAI you may want to use the ruby red metallic from rustoleum as your base coat and then hit it with a couple coats of high temp clear... there is a link below for the paint i am talking about... the silver color matches the acura silver almost exactly....

I was gonna match the CAI, but I didn't really see the color carefully before I do that. Eventhough it doesn't match it, I'm very happy with the color and looks altogether. Thanks for the link anyway.

Would looks much much better if it matched the AEM intake. Right now it is kinda goofy looking IMO. Paint the CAI too. You did a great job on the paint process... it just doesn't match. Kinda like wearing a red jacket with a burgandy shirt

Just my Props for taking the step to paint it all yourself though.
