I think once you dial in your driving 100% and iron out any details with the suspension and tires, the CL will be a tough competitor given the weight & power, your car sounded really good in the videos.

Keep up with the updates! I still check on the thread daily.

Auto crossing must be getting more popular. I saw an '03 CL at a gas station the other day so turned around to go talk to the guy. Turns out it was a silver 6 speed car, and the guy regularly takes it out to do what he called "cone racing". Also turns out he knows my neighbor and of my car.

I thought my car was the 2nd best sounding probably after the porsche 914 but I am probably a lil biased. The tanabe cat-back does sound good and really screams once you hit vtec.

I dunno if it is getting more popular or not. I thought most people stuck to drag racing. Here I thought I was special and the only one auto crossing a cl.

I am surprised you were beating stock frs's with only those mods.

So it looks like after over 3 years since I bought my zeal coils I can finally use all 4. It seems like this 2nd rebuild did the job. I also lowered the car to slightly under a 1" gap on all corners. I will take a pic of the new stance once I wash the car and get an alignment.

I am excited to try this suspension setup at the next event. Should help.

Cool thanks for the response! Interesting that your car tends to oversteer... is it because of the different weight distribution that youve created since making your car 3k lbs?

The weight loss could have some affect, but it isn't like a rwd car where you want 50/50 distribution. You want more weight up front.

I think it will just involve some suspension tuning with damper settings, alignment, adjusting rear sway bar, or removing some of the bracing bars I have under the car.

I think having a different suspension in the rear didn't help. Now that all 4 corners are matched should help.

I still want it to turn more to oversteer than under steer. Just want less of it, or a more neutral feel.

Well I don't know about you but I drive it like its stolen when racing auto-x or drag I slam gears and just smash on the car .

Well the FRS was brand new out of the box there it was in june or july last year so the people driving them probably had no experience behind the wheel , and the course seemed much more tight than the ones you're on . Rwd makes them drift and slide I just push my way threw . That car was auto I just left it in D1 and only on the first sweeping right I'd get up to like 6500 and than into a tear drop . So maybe a larger course would have made them the bread winners .

The tighter the course, the worse it is for the cl. A more open course should be better for it.

Well after driving it for a few days with the zeals on all 4 corners it really is almost a night and day difference. I can't wait to see how it translates to time reduction at the autocross this weekend.

I haven't gotten around to cleaning the car or getting it aligned yet. I have an alignment appointment for thursday at a much better shop. When I called the shop he asked if my car was lowered and I said yes. His next question without even knowing me was is it for a track setup. I said yes it is for autocross. He said no problem just have the specs you want ready for when you come in. Their alignment rack is built into the floor also so no ramps to go up.

Here is a pic I snapped of the current ride height. I lowered it quite a bit. It is under a 1 finger gap on all sides, probably closer to 1/2 a finger gap.

I will be at 2 events this weekend. There is also a huge car show across the parking lot from the autocross on saturday. I am not registering my car for the show but plan on attending and checking it out. I will take pics also and post a link on here.

I plan on getting more video this time from my gopro and trying a few new mounting positions. One will be on the fender pointed t the front wheel. Another will be on the rear bumper or trunk pointed at the exhaust tip. I have some family members going also that plan on recording video from outside the car for me.

I was at my car shop this last weekend helping them clean up. Some of the guys were talking about an autocross group they run in. This group is supposedly better for bigger more powerful cars. They do autocross, high speed autocross, wheel to wheel racing and more. We are planning to do a lot of events and track days next year as a group.

It looks like having a gutted interior will screw me as far as what class I will be put in. I won't stand a chance against these proper race cars that are trailored to events and run slicks.
"Prepared– This class is generally for non-streetable cars. Things like gutted interiors and racing slicks are a big give away. Most things are allowed in this class and is relied on weight more than anything."

Here is the link to their site.
http://www.scscc.net/

Here are some more organizations in the midwest.
http://www.mcscc.org/

I refuse to build my car around their class rules. It will be just for fun for me, not to compete and win.

Car is looking good! Drop really sets it off.

Have you dynoed the car yet?

No I have never dynoed or taken it to the dragstrip. I don't put as much emphasis on those as most people. It would be nice to have a number and time to go by though.

My guess would be 265-270 whp.

I probably will do a before/after dyno when I change up the headers to a custom set.

The drop really does make a big difference visually, I just hope I don't rip my bracing bars off.

Sounds like things are going well Brian. I would be interested in your headers when you replace them with a custom set.

Dat drop ! looks sooo damn good . My cusco bar ground all the way down to nothing besides mounts but I was much lower and probably softer . I don't think you'll ever rip them off.

Longacre 50370 Temperature Compensated Tire Pressure Gauge : Amazon.com : Automotive Longacre 50370 Temperature Compensated Tire Pressure Gauge : Amazon.com : Automotive

or just going with this:
Amazon.com: Longacre 50407 Pro Precision Tire Gauge: Automotive Amazon.com: Longacre 50407 Pro Precision Tire Gauge: Automotive

plus this:

Whats the pyrometer do? ( literal latin is fire measure).....roughly. Seems like a lot for a tire gauge. I would recommend making a spread sheet that catalogues air temp, humidity, tire pressure and how the car performed. Eventually you should have enough data to determine where you need to set you tire pressure based on conditions and be able to use a cheaper gauge...... Just a rambling thought.

Pyrometer just measures tire temperatures.

Btw here are my alignment specs after yesterday. This shop was a night and day difference from the typical shop. The specs aren't exactly what I wanted but they should do for now.

I tried out a new gopro mount location.

Here is a test video. You might find the road noise annoying. I want to try it with the sealed back door next.

I went to the auto-x on Saturday in Schaumburg. I ended up 4th in my class out of 12 drivers. I was in 2nd place up until the last session of the day when 2 cars passed me at the end. I was only 1 second off the first place car(a BMW Z4 M coupe with hoosier slicks). I still got a "losers" ribbon for my efforts.

Here are some of the cars I haven't seen at an event before and I found interesting.

Can anyone tell me what version of lotus this is? I feel embarrassed for not knowing.

Here is the gopro video I captured with it attached to the front bumper. I think this location gives the best sense of speed.

Here are a few videos from a spectators perspective. Sorry about that rattling noise or whatever it is. I noticed at some points in the videos I could see my rear wheel slightly lifting off the ground.

Whoa Brian! I noticed a rider in one of those runs. Which means you put the (a) passenger seat back in the car. Did it help stabilize the car any?

I meant more along the lines of is it a special edition elise because of all that aero stuff or is that just aftermarket add-ons?

Yea I installed my passenger seat so that people could go for rides. I think I had a passenger for about half my runs. The surface at this lot is not nearly as nice as at tirerack. It seemed my biggest issue was grip. I don't think the seat or passenger really hurt or helped the runs much. My fastest time was without a passenger, but my passenger time was only .3 sec off my fastest time.

I have 1 or 2 more events this year. Then I can start tearing the car apart and doing more work. I need to see about dropping the car off at king motorsports over the winter for some work.

I will be at an autocross this weekend. Will try new camera mount locations.

I ended up not making it to the autocross on saturday because some issues popped up.

I did end up seeing this driving on the streets on saturday though and followed it to a parking lot where models in bikini's were washing cars. I have no pics of the models though, sorry.

Can anyone tell if it is an authentic ariel atom or a knock-off. I noticed the diagonal tube bars are going the opposite direction of all the ariel atom pics I have seen.

I would love to someday have one of these to drive around. In case anyone doesn't know you can have the parts shipped to the US, then you can have a company assemble it or do it yourself. Then you just label it as a kit car and it is street legal.

First one I have seen in the US. I doubt there are very many running around.

Is it sad that I got more excited seeing that than probably any other car. I see 200,000 to 1 million dollar cars a lot, but this was my favorite.

I am sure that would change if I saw a mclaren F1, P1, ferrari f40, or pagani.

I stopped by the Lake Forest Sports Car shop last week also but didn't take any pics. That facility is amazing. They had over 100 cars all worth over 200,000. They had a mclaren f1 car(ones used in formula 1), about 10 different mp4-12c's, a bare mp4-12c chassis, probably 20 ferraris, lotus's, maserati's, aston martins, etc. They even had a section with racing cars. Some of the race cars are worth millions. They had an aston race car, bentley prototype racer, ferrari racecar, cobra race car, etc.

I could stare at those cars for hours.
