Mantis Personally I would run the amp. power wire under the intake. The intake does get hot and over time might burn through the insulation of the wire.

Re: Just Another Blue AEM CAI

your gonna have a torn up hoodliner with it installed like that. the metal section should have been removed completely and the rubber hose should replace it.

i'll post pics of how it should be if you'd like.

the blue theme looks tight, btw

yeah matt, let's see some pics. I also used Chod's instructions so mine look like mantis'. Are we suppost to remove that metal tube that slants up from the area by the oil cap to the area where the cai attaches to the throttle body?

http://public.fotki.com/satincls/my_...vc-019s-1.html

this is all i can do right now from work. i can take some closer up shots for you tomorrow if you want.

but basically you just want to remove the metal pipe and replace it w/ rubber hose(s). you may have to buy the hose, i think i had to.

the aem instructions are pretty vague.

i looked at 2003CLTYPES car on saturday and his was the same way.

if the faq has the install w/ the metal pipe, it should probably be updated. since it works better and looks way better w/o it.

the hoses they supplied didn't appear to fit there, so I assumed I wasn't supposed to use them there. Looks like I'm going to need to make a stop at the store.

thanks for posting btw.

take a small flat screwdriver and pry up the edge of the hose, do that all the way around. sometimes they can be a real bitch so you'll have to play around with it.

this is after removing the clamps, of course

maybe use a little wd-40 if it still wont come off

Okay, stupid question time. I finally went to Pep boys and got my hoses.

The stock installation has short rubber tubes that connect to a thin metal pipe thing.

Now I assume the entire idea here is to remove the thin metal pipe thing, and replace the short hoses with longer hoses that reach to the other end (where the metal pipe was connected to)

How come you don't need some sort of metal fitting to connect two rubber pipes? (Like a really short version of the metal tube thing)?

Am I missing something here?

The thicker hose should now go underneath the cai and connect to the hole where the metal pipe was. I drew a red line (not the circled line) on it to show you where it connects.

Now the other hose, which I'm assuming you bought the replacement for, replaces the 2 hoses that were on either ends of the metal pipe. That's the one that's circled.

Here's another pic of the smaller hose, ignore the red circle there. It's the hose with the white letters on it. It connects up near the cai, and then in the other place you removed a hose from, circled in blue. I hope this makes some sense.
