Re-Programming Keyless Remote

Can the keyless remote be re-programmed without having to go to an Acura dealer? He wants to charge me $90!

yes, my fiancee did this on our '97. I'll ask her when I get home later if she remembers how to do it.

Well when I bought the car, it didn't come with the remote. So, the Acura dealer said that I could purchase a new one, but that they would have to program it. I'm not sure if he means doing something to the remote, or to the car

They do charge you that much to program the remote. I went in one day to see if i could get a second set of keys for my car. $75 for the key and $75 to program it. $150 for they key and the alarm. If you ask me, that's ridiculous.

I broke on of my remotes and they charged me 32 for the remote and programmed it for me. It should be in the manual...

I think something like...turn the key to check engine, then turn off, the green key symbol flashes, click the remote buttons to lock, then do it again or something like that. Sorry...It was a while ago..

I know if you do have the remote that came with the car, and have to reprogram it, (ex: changing batteries), you can just point it at the car and hit any of the buttons six times in a row, and that will reprogram it. I don't know if it is a brand new remote, if that procedure will work or not. You might try it though.

I really doubt it because what would prevent me from getting a remote and then pointing it at any other cl?

I have a remote from a brand new Accord that I ganked, does anyone know if there is any way to program that remote for my CL? Acura told me that they make the remotes different for different makes, so it may or it may not... but either way they want $30 up front to try to program it weather it works or not. If anyone finds out how to program these damn things, let me know, cause I could use an extra remote... my other Acura one got smashed. The alarms and keyless systems are made by Alpine, so I wonder if they can help us?....

Ok...try this to reprogram so you dont need to pay all that money!

1. Turn the ignition switch on (II on the ignition)
2. W/in 1-4sec, push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit. (Just at the steering wheel is fine)
3. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ignition switch off
4. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ignition switch on(II)
5. W/in 1-4, push the transmitter lock or unlock button w/ the transmitter aimed at the receiver again.
6. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ign. switch off
7. W/in 4sec, turn the ignition switch On(II)
8. w/in 1-4sec, push the transmitter lock or unlock again.
9. w/in 4 sec, turn the ign off
10. w/in 4 sec, turn the ign ON
11. W/in 1-4, push the transmitter again
12. Confirm you can hear the sound of the door actuators. W/in 1-4sec, push the trans lock or unlock button again.
13. W/in 10sec, aim the transmitters (up to three) whose codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.
14. Turn the ignition switch off, and pull out the key.
15. Confirm proper operation with the new codes

There you go! Sorry this is from the helms but my scanner is broken right now.

You beat me to the punch tw1112. I bought my remotes used off of Ebay. I think I paid twenty for two and the guy sent directions. I still had one of the originals so now I have three. I just checked and they have some on eBay now.

stolen remote

my remote and master ignition key were stolen and the thief found my car in the parking lot (panic button?) and stole more goodies from the car. Since I frequent the area, I'm concerned that the thief may notice the car again and strike again.

Does anyone know of a way to reprogram the CAR's security code so that the old remote codes won't work? Can a new master ign. key be reprogrammed so that the old one doesn't work either? Thanks!

Ouch. I hate to hear that. Go talk with Acura. That's probably the best way of doing it. That, or get a new security system.

Question Not sure which one I need

I have a '97 CL 3.0 but I don't have the keyless entry remote. I would like to get one off ebay, but I'm not sure which one to buy. Does anyone know what the FCC ID is for this car?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Is that FCC ID the only thing that matters when it comes to remotes? I've found one on Ebay, but its from Canada and I'm in Texas. Will that be a problem? Or is the FCC ID the only thing that counts?

Thanks!

I'm not able to program my remote using the method above (I did it using the same instructions on my previous Acura though)

I suspect the reason is that I only have the valet key and not the master black one to program. Can someone please confirm this for me?

remote seems like it took, but won't unlock

I have a key fob with the correct FCC #, and ran it through the programming instructions. After the 4th time, I hear the door actuators. I turned the key off and took it out of the ignition, got out and shut the doors, but the remote isn't locking/unlocking the doors.
Ideas? Did I miss a step?

I ordered a new remote, a master key blank and a valet key blank from OEMAcuraParts.com on the 10th. They arrived today. All three items have the Acura logo on them and are identical pieces to the originals. While sitting in a parking lot waiting on my daughter, i used the instructions above to program the remote. i now have two working remotes. i simply ordered all three right off their website for my 97 3.0 CL. No questions about FCC #'s whatsoever. Price also was less than what i found on Ebay.

Part numbers & prices are:

Master key blank: 35117-SL5-U01 $1.19
Valet key blank : 35114-SL0-A01 $11.76
Remote : 72147-SY8-A03 $43.06

hope this helps anyone considering or in need of these items.

How about for the 2005 Acura RL that has the keyless entry and ignition. The car I just bought only has one remote. I found a used one on ebay, but I need the black key insert and to get the remote programmed. I understand it cannot be done without the dealer. I'm trying to see if an independent auto locksmith can do it. I want to stay away from the vampires at the dealer. You know, the dealers are really the WORST thing about cars. I buy cars online now. I would rather buy a car sight unseen than sit in that chair again.

How can I buy a replacement remote that I know will work if I do not have the original? I have found quite a few on ebay for cheap but many of them have no return policy so I have to make sure I'm buying the right one.
