This is popular on the East Coast including Pennsylvania.
In work construction zone they use them to slow people down. Unattended traffic radar mounted and turned always on to set off radar detectors.
But I've never seen an unmanned camera with traffic radar. Maybe it was some other type of traffic warning system, what band? What type of radar detector do you have?
CT only recently allowed radar detectors (in the past 5-10 years) so perhaps it's their way of foiling them.

they have those here in MN, usually K or X band.
the DOT's have been doing research with cameras and
I was involved in some testing while doing research at the University with MNDot. Ken, next time you are in Minneapolis, drive down 394 and check out all the cameras (in the neighborhood of 30 or 40 per overpass, they are small) on the overpasses as you go by (a little dangerous) ... we were counting cars and measuring speeds ... it will be used to gather data for traffic engineering and planning.

Happy CL-S Pilot
Someplaces like Montreal Bridges and HW they do have Cameras and Radar to monitor the traffic flow... in Canada RD are illegal to use! maybe in BC is okay...

I lived in CT for a while and it was a real pain in the neck. You just have to turn off the detector. This is not a speed trap thing, they use these to determine where traffic is slowed down, alerting them to an accident or traffic problem. If the application sees a drop in the speed then it alerts then in the control center.
Traffic control only.

It is a pain in the ass but do not turn off your detector. State still uses radar, K and Ka. These traffic sensors are placed from Greenwich to Branford (exit 54) on 95 and operate on X only.
The V1 one is nice in this area. Once I mute it it stays muted and only gives me the double beep (unmuted) when it picks up any new signal. Then back to mute. If it senses K or Ka 4 leds in strength (most likely police radar) it completely unmutes. The other cool thing is you can set what level mute is. Mine is low enough for me to hear but the passengers can not.

Find beauty in dissonance
Probably something like this:
http://www.chart.state.md.us/
I think Maryland uses some X-band radars mounted on overpasses, and some sensors (induction loops) in the road. Lots of cameras.

I stick to the Merritt...no boxes so my V1 works like clockwork.
