wrong assumption about rattles

I can't count the number of posts I've seen regarding annoying rattles. Well, I always assumed that it was due to having a hard pounding system or a stiff aftermarket suspension. I'm now officially a member of the rattle club. My 6 speed only has 14k on it. The sunroof started making some noise about a week ago. Yesterday on the drive home, it sounded like I was driving in a frickin hail storm the rattles were so bad

So from what I've seen, people aren't having much success at dealers with this. Should I just try to fix it myself?

Thats what my dealer does too. I have them redo it about every other oil change. Only other thing that really rattles is the passenger side airbag

No rattles here in 17K miles. Just the moonroof which wasn't even really bad however the TSB was performed anyway. Also had no rattles in the 02 I had in 18K miles.

There is a tape that needs to be applied for the moonroof. Silcone goo isn't a long term fix.

My dealer put some tape around the inside the moon-roof to stop it from rattling. They did this at about 15k service or something, tomorrow they are replacing the speaker cover or something for another rattle I reported.

No rattles can be heard in MY car.
You just need to set the rattle-compensation-modulation-device to the proper level.

Here it is..... CLICK ME

just out of curiosity, is there an official TSB out on this, or is it just a known problem?

One of my highschool teachers used to say the same thing. Of course at the time he was talking about a 10 year old 1976 Plymouth Duster

I have 44K miles on mine and it's rattle free most of the time.

It had a sunroof rattle but the dealer took care of that by applying some type of teflon tape to the inside of the sunroof opening. It works.

When the weather is very cold then an occassional rear deck rattle occurs along with a front dash one. Above 50F it doesn'r happen.

Go back to the dealer ask for the antisqueak tape installed around the sunroof. The dealer did that for me and good bye annoying sunroof squeak.

When you ride in a car to test drive, how can you tell if its going to be a rattle box?

see, my dads bmw has like 60k miles and barely any rattles. i always thought that if i car felt "solid" it wouldn't rattle, but my friend just bought a gti and it has little rattles everywhere after 10k miles, and it feels really solid

is there any way to tell? any car brands have reputations for or against?

I had a rattle in the rear deck. Went to the dealer and they took care of it. Quiet as a mouse since then.

I have spent nearly six months with a rattle that I just couldn't pin point until recently. I now believe that it is in the sun roof. I already have the special tape. what I have found is that bumps in the road, and certain bass frequencies make the rattle/squeak. I have seen several fixes in the posts to these problems but none of the fixes seem to be long term. I don't mind putting some lube in the right place every few months, but I don't exactly know where the right place is to put the lube. Also, I would suspect that the squeak means that something is getting friction that shouldn't and will wear out eventually.

Anyway, my question is this... Has anyone seen a more permantent fix to these problems?

The sunroof tape is DEFINATELY NOT a long term fix .. mine is all torn up and they get to do it again .. it lasted less than a year ... I suppose it would work fine if you never opened your sunroof .. which seems to fit into with much of acura's engineering .. if you don't you use your brakes, they won't warp .. if you don't shift your tranny .. it won't destroy itself ... if you don't store seat positions into the memory system, it won't lose it .....

I use 303 protectant on the rubber seals around the sunroof. No more rattles. I apply it whenever I do the interior dash. Only takes a couple minutes.
