I still miss the mpv and loved how I didnt have to fuss over damage or care too much about it. Too bad some dumb lady had to tbone it.
Nice, MPV FTW!!! My friend had that as a first car as well and he broke my grandpa's headlights when he was backing up... But that's a different story.

I agree with you. Even though I had the 03 TLS as a first car, I kinda wished I had something a bit cheaper. I scratched BOTH sides (barely noticeable now) and it took me 2 years to get acquainted with it. I'm still learning now.

Well a bit of an update... We looked at a few CLS6 for sale and he actually doesn't like it. He doesn't like how it looks.

He doesn't want a 4-banger either. He just wants a 6 cylinder car, which he believes is the standard. Well, we actually found a few 330ci's (01-02) for around $11K (Great deal!!!) with less than 90K miles. He actually loves the E46 styling. Now it's not about getting him such a classy car or what "I" think is best, but something that he actually likes and would take good care of.

He's very careful with things and doesn't really want a fast car... He doesn't care that the 330Ci is great in performance, he just likes knowing that it is and he can be humble about it and not show-off. It sounds like a paradox, but he's really not into driving fast and all that jazz (knock on wood!). I think we'll be getting an E46 for him.

I now think that if we're actually gonna get him a decent first car that he actually likes, there'll be less for him to want... Am I making sense ???

Like if we do it right the first time, he won't wanna do crazy stuff to the car like beef it up, change interior color, leather instead of upholstery, halogen to HID, etc... I want him to be happy and feel spoiled for once; he's a good kid.

He doesn't like the way it looks?

When I was at that age, I drove a 94 Ford Taurus GL my parents gave me. I was just happy to have something to drive.... and something I didn't even have to pay for, no less.

Buy a 6 speed only. 6 speeds hold up fine. The HID ballasts can go out but that was the only problem I ever had.

UPDATE:

I revived my dad's 97 1.8L, MT Celica sitting in the driveway for my bro to drive! However... My dad is using the car himself because he doesn't want my brother to drive recklessly with a manual and turn the 4-banger into a loud ricey car...

So... instead of looking around for a car for my brother, which was why I made this thread to begin with - it looks like he's gonna take my dad's old car: an 01 4.4xi X5!!!

Pics to come (if you guys are interested, this is ACURAzine afterall)! I really wanted to bring a CLS6 into the family, but it looks like my brother is going to get a "soccer mom" SUV...

V8 BMW? That's going to hurt his wallet. Not bad for a first car though. Plenty of space for the ladies
