WOT Question? (Red-lineing 3rd gear)

Ok guys I have a question...I drive alot in SS and i recently seemed to be runnig into alot of challengers. I have redlined my 3rd gear (not paying attention) then the engine acts up, and I shift into 4th. I have done this 4-7 times now, I know it's my fault but...these idiots on the road are always trying to race me in my CLS  I was wondering, what damage am I doing to my engine if I keep this habit up? :(

It's sound like your hitting your "rev limiter", which prevents you from damaging your car........at least Honda/Acura hopes so.....:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

And by taking up the race, are you then an "idiot"?

Well... this is what you should do... ofcourse you shouldn't be doing this on normal streets... but this is how you do it:

Floor the throttle in 3rd and keep it that way...
when you come right under the red line keep your foot on
the throttle and shift up on the SS

what will happen is that since the SS thinks you already said to
shift before red line, it'll let you go into the red line while it
figured out how to shift you. Because your foot is on the throttle
shifting takes longer hence you go deeper into the redline and
will land at a higher RPM/torque in 4th.

Hey no flames please :D If I am driving normally and someone pesterizes me by flashing lights, honking horns, blocking me from moving over, speed up-slow down, brake, gives me the finger, laughs, etc....I WILL THEN ME BE AN IDIOT ....AN PROUD OF IT! :P :bandito:

ANYWAY, this thread wasn't about my interaction with other people or badgering thorodred. It was about the car and the revlimiter.

ramiel408 - Thanks for the info, I will try it on an open road (w/ no traffic).

NO shit.

And I bet that fucker has NEVER raced his Type S.

Actually I'd believe him if he said he didn't. After his posts in the "another race, another innocent person dead" thread, he strikes me as someone who should have saved a couple grand and bought a CL-P because they won't ever need the extra hp/torque.

In other words, shift early. Practice until you can time it just right.

You're right, I haven't raced, yet. I believe I have taken advantage of the functionality of the Type - S. When I get the car set up for it's true potential, I plan on hitting the "track" with it. I absolutely refuse to put my life in harms way and feel it is totally idiotic to put someone else's life in jeopardy. YMMV
