The word from Acura on the CL Type S top speed.

After looking at all of the top speed runs I got, I still am wondering if there is a speed limiter on the car. One of the members said the car did approx 155mph *and* another said they reached 153 (both in 4th gear).

I still remember that comment about one driver hitting 149+ (in 4th gear) and getting slammed back every time.

Does anyone know if Acura ever published any information in any of its service manuals that says there is a top speed limiter?

Anyone want to drive down a steep and long hill with their foot in it? (Just kidding, someone may sue me *or* say I'm trying to increase, "Police Chase Video" footage!)

obviously I can't prove to anyone whether they are real or not, but I can give you all my word that they are

check the link here and you can look at all the pics I took that night, if you check the odometer in them, you'll see it's kept going up as I drive down the road...

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...711&a=10394647

and btw, the car definitely has a top speed fuel cutoff, I gaurantee this, anyone who says differently just hasn't been there yet...

Astroboy-

I've been wondering about those shots of the speed gauges.

Are they real? How did you shoot those shots? While driving??? And what's with the temperature gauge reading -5 degrees?

I'm still curious about the car going that fast.

He's a crazy sumbitch. Plus he lives in canada. -5 degrees is more than possible.

Humm, I converted Astroboy's 240KPH using the following equation:

240 kph / 1.602 = 149.06. But he was going a little over that, then factor in speedo error.

To Astroboy:

So, forgive my dementia, but were you the one that said you would hit a given speed, then get reeled back in?

What tires are you running (make and size)? I believe you said they were stock in the previous posting about top speeds.

Since your are in Canada, is the temp meter set to read Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Note (BeatYaAll and other V-AFC owners):

Someone, (yep, I forgot the name -- sorry), said they thought the line I saw cut completely out of the V-AFC install was for the original VTEC signal.
I looked again, and the VTEC signal is still used (intercepted), but the mysterious VTM signal is not examined again! They V-AFC line is not connected, but the VTEC signal line is put *through* the V-AFC to be able to change the 2nd cam cut in/out.

if he was going 149 I belive him. I hit 145 and may be 146 on route 66. It didn't take much for me cuz i was going downhill and it was pretty cold out side(colder air more hp).

The fuel pump cuts off near 160...its almost impossible to get it up that to that fast. Somewhere in the 150's is about right.

After getting these new tires put on it feels so smooth I don't even notice I'm running 90+mph on the highway. I used to feel enough slight shudder that I'd feel like I was going fast around 80mph with the stock tires near the end of their 36k mile duty.

These Falkens are so smooth right now I took them over 100mph without feeling the slightest vibration or unsafe. Very stable. I like.

I'm going to Vegas next weekend, I'll try out the top-speed. I do know that air-resistance will be a killer past 140mph... and I don't know if these cars have enough ooomph in 6th gear to overcome that!

The following are my top-speed records for each car I have owned

95 Civic Coupe 181mph
93 Civic HB 163mph
98 Prelude Turbo 158mph
92 NSX 171mph
03 CL-S Haven't tried yet... think I am getting too old to try this!

The difference between the 95 Coupe and the 93 HB was the gearing because the engine was the same one (I wrecked the coupe and put the B18C in the HB). Anyways, the Coupe had an LS-motor tranny at the time and the HB had the Type-R tranny.

Top-speed on both runs were redline limited at 9000rpm in 5th gear.

my pics are all legit and 100% real...
the temperature is in celcius, that's why the -5 reading...I was running stock rims and tires...therefore the only error present is speedo calibration...

they were almost all shot at night, with the flash on..some were with my old Kodad 1.6 mega pixel digi cam by myself, and others were taken with my Sony DSC P1 Digi cam...

here is a current link to them:

A Civic over 180?
On the way back from picking up my CL from AZ, I hit 133 w/o a problem. Suspect they pull well into the mid 140s. Going to be one quick ride to Vegas...
