Windshield Replacement in FL
So in FL if you have a damaged windshield with damage inhibiting the driver or badly scratched or pitted from sand and have full comprehensive you can get the windshield replaced for free. But, my question is....who has had it done this way....and did they raise your rates afterward? My windshield is getting bad, esp. at dusk and dawn, but I don't want to mess with my insurance....I have progressive btw. Just looking to see if this is a worthwhile way to proceed.
thanks

I can help. I have did this before. It will go on your record as a claim, but it's not going to raise your rates. I had the WS replaced on my old 300M. My insurance said I could go to any approved shop to get it replaced as long as they took my insurance. I called allied glass they came out to my job & did it right there.

I have several done over the years. No big deal. They come to you. Just like fuzzy said, It will go on your record as a claim, but it's not going to raise your rates. Safelite is huge in Florida. They actually manufacture the WS and install them.

As Allstate told me about the same thing regarding the windshield....it will count as a claim but your rates won't go up. HOWEVER, if there is a second claim made on the same vehicle within one year, your rates will go up as if you had 2 claims. Most insurance companies (if you're with them long enough or have an outstanding record with no accidents/claims/tickets in 5 years) will give you a one-time courtesy claim (just like the windshield claim). But watch out if you have to report another claim within the year of the first claim.Geico is the same exact way. I saw it happen with my friend's mustang in '03. He re-read his huge insurance policy and found the wording regarding this. Mine doesn't have it but read your ENTIRE policy to make sure. I doubt many people ever read the entire policy. Needless to say, my friend changed insurance companies because of the rate hike.
