Wilwood Big Brake Kit Installed!

I just got them installed today and they look fabulous! The pedal feel is still a little soft, but I think it will get stiffer after I break the brakes in. The Cadnium coating on the brakes is pretty thick. I will have pics up soon.

Paid $2k installed included the following:

Front - 13" cross-drilled/slotted Coleman rotors cyro and Cadnium treated, Wilwood 6 piston calipers, SS brake lines, Wilwood ceramic pads

Rear - Coleman cross-drilled/slotted blanks cyro and Cadnium treated, Wilwood ceramic pads

Brake fluid was something like Super Blue Performace Brake fluid. I'm not sure the exact name, I'll look at the bottle tomorrow.

Mike - The pics are below.

One thing...re-bleed the system...if you say the pedal feels a little soft...I've never seen the pedal get firmer from breaking in pads...you probably have a small amount of air in the system...great looking brakes though and good luck...lets see a pic of the whole car

Yep, Konig 18x7.5 +42 offset. The caliper cleared by 1 cm, so that is a lot of space according to Sherwin.

Wow, Sherwin didn't tell me that. That would be cool for you guys that have stock sized wheels.

Ant - Thanks dude. I was going to check the brake fluid level tomorrow morning and see if it changes at all. I'll have pics of the whole car tomorrow.

Next up: CT exhausts being installed Thursday.

The only way to get rid of air bubbles in brake lines is to bleed the entire brake system..you just can't add more brake fluid since the bubbles have a displacement.

BTW, the brakes look pretty good

Fahoumh - Yea, I know. I just wanted to check if the brake fluid was filled up all the way. Thanks for the info though.

I'll update everyone on my initial impressions when I drive to work tomorrow.

Ronnie, It was a pleasure meeting you today. Im glad you were able to come down, i know you had a long trip, I hope the low cost of installing them made up for it

As I mentioned today, the pedal will def firm up. Everytime you open the system it takes a little while to get everything back to up to normal. Especially with systems with ABS everything take a few cycles and a few hundred miles to get set. Highway miles dont count

We actually do carry a 12.2" version as well that is also 1.1" thick to fit 16" wheels. We dont advertise this much because most of you are looking for the BIG brakes. The 12.2 version is just as capable as the 13" I know, i have them on my S2000 which I road race on a regular basis. Follow this link and you will see a picture of the 6 piston and a not plated slotted only rotor. That is my set which clears 16" wheels. http://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthrea...hreadid=136717

If you guys got any questions or concerns feel free to email me at Sherwin@BrakeZone.com. I ll be glad to help any way i can.

BTW, get some pics with more of the car in there

Sherwin - It was pleasure meeting you as well and thanks for the cheap install and lunch! I figured highway miles don't count considering I didn't use the brake much at all crusing on I-5. I'll get some shots tomorrow of the whole car when I go to work. Thanks again.

Thanks everyone!

Just to clarify: Docofmind=Sherwin=Brakezone=Wilwood Brakes. He is the expert.

Aztec - When and where is the meet? I'm game.

Riceburner - Sunnyvale is 330 miles north of Brakezone (Van Nuys), so it ain't that close. I drove down yesterday, but it was worth it.

Nova - I think the 12.1 would fit, but not the 13. E-mail or call Sherwin.

Essarak - Just e-mail or call Sherwin and say you have a CL-S. These are custom made.

Smitty - I don't have my stock rims, plus I'm 300 miles away from Sherwin. He has spacers, so if anyone in socal would give him a call and try it out that would be great.

Well we need to do a test fit with the stock rim to be 100% sure.

Do you plan on going back or near Sherwin in the near future?... maybe a fella CLer can meet you there and let you borrow a rim for a test fit.

Initial Impressions

This morning as I drove to work, the pedal definitely feel stiffer than yesterday and the brakes felt like they grip more. I'm sure it takes a while before they really start performing the way they should. Also, the steering wheel feels a lot lighter, more responsive, and turning feels much better. The OEM stuff weights a ton!

I'll have more later on.

That means they need to buy the kit first and get it installed just to see if it would fit.....

The reason why I push this issue is because I do not want to hear the usual "oh, it SHOULD fit".... Everyone here is still waiting to hear if there is a fitment issue, or if spacers will rectify the fitment issue.....

We already know from Sherwin that the 12.1 version fits a 16" rim, but as the for the 13, I think you will have to ask Sherwin about it as he has the spacers and is the expert. There have been other people that bought the kit in socal (I think), so maybe Sherwin can find one of those guys and ask them to come in and try a stock rim.

Sorry I can't help, but driving 660+ miles round trip on my day off of work is a lot to ask for.

I know your frustration Smitty as a lot of things for our car come and go or never get finalized. If someone in the Bay Area has the stock rims from 01-03 laying around, I can try the fitment of the rim. My car guy has spacers and agreed to do this for me.

I think pimpwhitecls has stock rims for sale that you might be able to borrow to see if it fits.
